Marshall Class 5 amps

The Marshall Class 5 amp is a simple five-watt, class A, tube combo It uses ECC83s in the preamp stage and one EL84 power tube for power. It's a very simple guitar amp, meant for smaller gigs or practice.

The front panel has a Plexi look. The knobs you find here are Volume, Treble, Middle and Bass. Super simple! This is a Class A design, and even though it is simple, you can get a lot out of it. It is touch sensitive and responds very well to pedals and adjustments to the guitar's volume or tone knobs.

This little thing looks cool too. Nobody is going to laugh at you, even though it is small!

The price? About 400 bucks for a five watt tube guitar combo. Expensive? Nah, this is a different animal than the cheap solid state or modeling amps. You get serious tone and lots of volume and oomph for the price. I don't think it's expensive, considering the quality.

The speaker is a 16 ohm 10 inch Celestion G10F-15.

By the way, there is a headphone out, which mutes the amp's output for when you want to practice silently. There is also a 16 ohm speaker output, so you can even hook it up to a 4 x 12 cabinet if you so wish.

How does it sound?

It is very hard not to like this little amp! Thumbs up.

I just bought a class 5. It's green and sounds great. The only question I have is when I start to turn up the volume or put my pedal in front of it and go really low, there is a pretty noticeable buzz coming from the amp. It's my first tube amp and I've been told that the Class 5 is known for this but some people have cured it. Do you know how?

Hi, I would say no - it's not loud enough for that. If you use a 4x12
cab, it MIGHT work but you really would be better off micing the amp
in such a situation.

Hi Robert, I'm know you from YouTube and I love your reviews. Please, help me: I want to buy a Class 5 but I'm afraid it's not loud enough to play with my band. Could I play in a small pub (50 - 80 persons) using only one Class 5?

You know.....I was thinking about gettin' one of those Class 5 amps, but there are two things that stopped me, (1)Gotta have my reverb!(2)Since it's a low watt class "A" amp, it has little headroom. Other than that, I'm sure it'll do fine for folks who use those types of amps, and for once, you can get an affordable tube amp that not made in Asia somewhere.
