Cold today! Minus 38 C, minus -36 F

Minus 30 Celsius (minus 36 Fahrenheit). I couldn't believe my car started. It was whining and grumbling though, even though I left it plugged in overnight.

We get one or two cold spells every winter, when the temperature goes past the 35 mark. I think is the 2nd or 3rd time this winter it gets this cold, although we have had several days in a row with this temperature this winter. It's been the nastiest February I can remember.

One thing I tried this morning was to pour warm/hot water in a jug and throw it up in the air. I have seen on youtube where people have done this at around this temperature, and the water instantly freezes in the air. Didn't work for me, and I tried both hot, warm and luke-warm water. Any ideas why it didn't work? Perhaps it has to do with the hardness/softness of the water? Or perhaps it has to be at boiling temperature?

Don't believe me? See below!
