Porter Vintage Telecaster Pickups

Brian from Porter Pickups sent me this set to try out. See my video demo below.

These are Telecaster pickups of Vintage specs. This set features vintage type plain enamel wire in the neck (43AWG) and bridge (42AWG). The neck pickup comes standard with a brushed nickel cover for a vintage look.

The bridge features a steel baseplate and is wrapped with black string. This set is lightly wax potted.

With these pickups, you get classic old school tones in both positions, and balanced for a nice middle position sound. Both neck and bridge have AlNico 3 magnets and vintage cloth hookup wire.

I find this set to be very balanced, and the tone is definitely of vintage character. Perfect for rawer country and blues tones. I could not find anything to complain about here - the workmanship is top notch, and the sound is great.

These pickups turned my already good sounding Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele to another level - better balanced between the two pickups, and a significant improvement in overall tone. This modern guitar really sounds like an old (expensive) Fender now!

No I didn't change the pots. They seem fine to me.

Re: Porter Pickups. Did you switch the pots out as well Rob? I find the original volume pot is OK but the tone pot rolls off a little too quickly.
Mind you, so does the tone pot on my Taylor T3. Go figure.
