Wah pedals reviews

A comparison (or maybe just a demo) of the Dunlop Crybaby, EVH Crybaby, Fulltone Clyde Wah, and EX-7 with 2 wah models (Crybaby and Vox McCoy). Using a Marshall JVM 410H. Guitars were my Suhr Classic and my Michael Kelly Patriot Shadow with Rockfield pickups.

I suddenly felt like I needed to look into playing with wah pedals more, so I started by digging up my Fulltone Clyde Wah and my Digitech EX-7. I also went to Music Centre Canada and they were kind enough to let me take home a regular Crybaby and an EVH Crybaby by Dunlop for testing.

I played these pedals for quite a bit over the weekend, and they all have their own thing going for them. The EVH Wah surprised me. I thought it sounded really good, especially with some gain. The regular Crybaby didn't seem to suck tone and have any drawbacks really, although I have read comments about how some think it's poorly made and a real tone sucker. Didn't notice.

The EX-7 wah models on the default settings did sound a bit so-so, in comparison to the other pedals. However, these wah models can be tweaked quite a bit, something I didn't do this time.

So can you guess which of the Dunlop Wah pedals I bought?

Here's what my messing around with da Wahs sounded like. Let me hear which pedal you think sound the best!

The Vox wahs are great for sure. I didn't have access to one when I made this demo.

What about the Vox classic, and the Vox Joe Satriani Signature? Vox makes great wahs, with more range than Dunlops (if slightly gritier tone).

the ex-7 is the most versatile and lends itself to more applications than the othe oner trick ponies!

I don't think anybody uses an overdrive before the wah. It makes them all sound wacky. Other than that, this is a valuable comparison.

Hey, thanks for all this help here! I've been trying to figure out which wah to get, and this really helped! I think I want the Eddie Van Halen Wah now!
