I tried to upload one but got an error message. I may have done something wrong though.

However, you can select existing avatars by going to Profile/Forum Profile.

I mean that the software has existing avatars - there's Bob Marley, Eminem, Bono, etc - in the From Profile section. Looks like you already found or did you mean something else? Please clarify.

I made that post before I started looking into what I can do on your site. Didn't know you had that avatar thing, but now as you can see I do.
Will you be expanding the choices on the avatars, like pictures of guitars.

you can upload an avatar to photobucket and add it to your profile from there. that's what i did.

Like diaper head said, if you have an avatar stored on a web server somewhere, you can then "Specify avatar URL" under "Personalize Picture" in your Forum Profile.  The web server could be photobucket, Flickr, or similar site.
