Experiment in Delay
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:31:13 AM »
So I signed up for a box.net account today.  I haven't recorded anything on my own in several months, but I posted two of my favorite recordings.  This was done after a jam session using a Fender Superchamp XD on a Marshall like amp setting using only the tremolo on the guitar and the reverb and delay on the amp.  Its raw and unedited, so it lingers back and forth with some sounds I was messing with.  This was recorded with a Blue Snowball USB Mic to Audacity.

Good tone. I liked it. I need to learn how to get my sound online to share. I have another computer with plenty disc space (unlike the previous one), a mic, Audacity, a Box.net account, and a Soundclick account as well. Time to get started. Gotta learn how to do this! The right way. Somebody PM me and walk me through this. Embarrassing! :P

I made a recording on audacity and they have a link for software to convert their .aup files to .mp3.  Using an USB mic is simple plug in play.  Once I record the file, I edit it if necessary, (which I cannot provide instructions because I'm learning as  I go).  I convert the file to MP3, save it to disk, then upload it to the internet.

I think the Blue Snowball is the best one for the money.

Man, that guitar is singing! I've heard the Superchamp XDs are nice little amps.

Zag if you just want to record guitar, use an adapter to change your guitar 1/4 inch to a 1/8 and plug it in the Line in on your sound card and select that for your input in Audacity. You won't get the best sound but it's a start.

Yep, you can try that.  Another suggestion is something like a Line 6 Pocket Pod prior to the computer.  That might work too.

Of all the amps that I've ever had, the Superchamp XD is probably one the best I've had.  The Peavey Valveking 112 is a great amp too, just much much louder!

Thanks Pic! Now, what do I need to record with a backing track?

Haven't used Audacity in a while but I believe you can drag your backer on to the Audacity window and it will put it on a stereo track.

Make sure Overdub is set to 'On' in the 'Transport' Menu and your Line in is set as the recording device in the Preferences.

Hit record and your guitar will record on a separate stereo track.

Then you Mix and Render to a single Stereo track to export to MP3 or Wav.

I was actually able to record in stereo.  Then when the one track was over, I record multiple track layers overtop and remove any that I didn't like.
