cab question
« on: October 31, 2010, 07:47:49 AM »
when i was a kid, i had a sunn amp that sat on a cab containing 8- 8" special design" jensen speakers.  i thought the cab was a sunn cab, but i can't seem to find any info on a cab like that.
anyone ever heard of such a thing?

I may be wrong, but I don't think Sunn O))) ever made such a thing.  I  once had a cab made by them that had  6 tens in it, that I got used way back in the day.

it was a really cool amp till it caught fire.  i ended up replacing the head with a peavey i learned to hate, and replaced the 8" jensens with 2 - 12" celestions.  come to think of it, i don't remember what ever became of that cab

actually, it's kind of a funny story...

me and some buddies were playing a party for some bikers.  we were all trippin' pretty hard.
(hey i was 19 then) anyhow, the other guitar player's amp wasn't working and we were both plugged into my sunn head.  at some point everyone was having a great time, and smoke started pouring from the amp. then the lights went out and you could see the flames.  everyone thought it was part of the show and they cheered and cheered!   i screamed NO!!!! MY AMP'S ON FIRE!!!!!!!
then they laughed about it for a few minutes, untill someone came to their senses enough to realize the fire had to be put out.  by that timethe entire basement stunk like burning stuff, the head was toast, and so was part of the cab.  it wasn't a good night.  i also got hit by a car that night, but miraculously escaped injury.

Well, the best thing is you were okay, and you got something to talk about.
