Hi DetroitBlues

Sorry, I was buzzy this week and had no time for the forum

Do you use effect pedals with your amp, or just the minimum?
Guitar in the amp with 2 sounds A dirty and a clean with guitar volume?
I like also do that The sound is good but not polyvalent
Well, surely, my fingers are not polyvalent
I saw John Mayall in live, and his guitarist had nothing but the guitar directly plugged in the amp He had just a clean or an overdrived sound He was fabulous! But he played like a god!

Sometime, depending of the song, I need a clean tone, a clean tone with chorus and delay (for exemple), an overdrive, and a compressed distortion (still for exemple)...
If I don't have a looper (too small pedalboard), it's not easy to disconnect and connect these pedals in reel time without loose the tempo
For that reason I prefer the JMP1 (preamp) and the G Major (multi fx) programmable and commanded by a midi foot controler
These two devices are stereo and go into the Rocktron amp stereo
If the cab is stereo (yes it is) I think it must be good

Be happy with your amp
Bye

I do not use pedals to achieve the tone I want.  Mostly, I just use my hands.  Soft picking for clean tones, hard picking for crunch.  If I want a snappy tone, I'll use my fingers instead of a pick.  Also I use my thumb when playing rhythm so the notes are mellowed out.  As for pedals, I plan on using a clean boost, delay, and flanger.  Those effects are needed for particuliar songs I want to play.

Let us know what you do with your set up.

I use the most important resources available to me. Hands, and technique. I do however like experimenting with some different effects. I use a chorus for rhythm work quite a bit. I use the side of my thumb for softer sound when the need arises. I change picking dynamics at times when the song I'm playing calls for it. Most importantly, I have fun.

I actually like using a flanger for appregio's when playing clean.  When I'm playing a strong lead for rock, I try to get as many pinch harmonics that I can just by changing the angle of the pick on the attack.  A lot of times it really just depends on the flow of the song.

I know the hands technics are very important for the sound
I like too find harmonics with the pick and the edge of my thumb
Dynamics, silent, double stops with pick and finger, palm mute and finger picking
Octaves with thumb (a la Wes) or brushed with pick or pick with finger
I don't really reach the artificial harmonics with my index
Chicken picking is hard to me too
But in general, I not really good on solo
I prefer rhythm

With my ex band, we played Riviera Paradise (SRV)
The guitar lead played all the solo, and me all the rhythmics
Everytime, he wanted me to play a solo He was so good that mine was pityfull
We respected the chord sheet and the intro melody, but the rest was improvised
I changed sound on every turn
From clean, clean chorused, overdrive and compressed distortion (with just a little more volume) when I heard he was inspired
Wonderful piece with shades
I liked the JMP1 and G Major in that tune
It was mono, but sounded a little like stereo
Hard to say, but he was more defined and more spacial

Do you have a recording of any of that?  If so, we'd love to hear it!
