I have a really hard time with back tracks.  Its not that I can't get into a rhythm, its just knowing just when to start and when to finish is the hard part.   Steviesnacks does a few videos that is very impressive use of backtracks.  Of course I'm sure it takes many tries before he gets it right, but its still difficult no matter what.

I have the same problem. It is very different from playing with a band, where you get visual cues too!

I'm sure there is some way to mark the track, so you can see the start/finish. But, I'm totally new to the computer recording thing so I haven't figured it all out yet.

I pick a song I'm familiar with and go with the flow. Having a band & studio background helps.

Sometime a song begins with a guitar lick or two.  To get those opening licks to fit in time with the drum intro is really hard for me.

Yeah...That part isn't what I'm referring to. I meant it would be nice to place a marker at the start and stop points (visual cue), for instance for the collaboration type thing.

There are several of us here who are totally new to computer-based recording, as well as the particular software we are using. In my case...Reaper. We are still fighting that learning curve!
