So Touchy!
« on: October 14, 2011, 12:36:16 PM »
Today I saw a post on the local Craigslist for a couple Boss Pedals.  NS2 Noise suppressor and a CE5 Chorus pedal.  However, he had them priced at $90 and $80.  I sent a polite email to him explaining he may want to reconsider his prices and holy cow, you'd thought I insulted his mother!  Why are people like that?

Well fellas, it's not like it used to be on CL (generally speaking) that's for sure. I think part of it is because of the "Is it still availible" crowd that tries to waste your time not to mention other things. You know.... low ballers, smart asses, you get my drift. I know what it means to be on both sides of the fence as I'm sure you guys know as well. Unfortunately this is the kind of crapola we have to deal with if we are going to continue to use CL. If I want to sell something, I know I'll have to be patient if I want my asking price, if I want a quick sale... I can forget it (asking price that is)! At the same time if I'm on the buying end I have to let them know verbatim what I'm interested in so they won't be so touchy. I see overpriced stuff all the time on CL but I just leave 'em alone. Not worth the hassle. Oh yeah.......come to think of it, this individual's selling a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat in CL and his ad has been in there for weeks! His price started at $225 and has gradually gone down over time (days) to what it is now, $180. No bites (aparently)! I know that feeling. I guess he figured "the heck with the seven days running time, I'm gonna repost my ad!"

I learned the hard way when I tried to get $800 for my Epi Les Paul.  The guitar was $430 plus a ton of extras I added to it.  I wasn't making a profit, just breaking even.  When I took it to two different places, they told me the same thing.  Upgrades don't mean anything, you still get the same price for the guitar if it was stock....

As for a Classic Vibe, $180 isn't bad, but it seems the Classic Vibe Telecasters are worth the most.... I'd jump on one of those.

Wow, I didn't know that    Quote;"As for a Classic Vibe, $180 isn't bad, but it seems the Classic Vibe Telecasters are worth the most.... I'd jump on one of those." Speaking of Classic Vibe 50s Strats, I had one that I gutted out completely and gave it the works but, well like anything else I wish I kept it. Yeah $180 is great but (don't hit me now) I've got too much gear as it is. Though I must say that one of my current favs is my Seymour Duncan equipped CV 50s Tele.

I only have three guitars.  I'd have more if I could.  Still want a few other guitars.  If I could have my way, I'd have about 10 more guitars than I already have.  Couple different Heritages, Gibson, Fenders, Gretch's, etc...  But I've learned to make due with what I've have.

Three is cool. I currently have nine and I've got some choices to make 'cause one thing's for sure, one of my "jazz boxes" has got to go (probably the Ibanez AK-80)to make room for the Epi ES-339. I've already got somebody coming by this week to look at  the Epi LP Ultra.

Yeah CL can really be a mixed bag, but for every 10 or 20 (or more) overpriced items, you can still find a nice deal once in a while.

he was already getting a sweet deal. i doubt he'll see 5 bills.  mebbe 450 at best.

After all that work you put into it (335)? I'd keep that baby even though "been there, done that!" with my Epi Les Paul Studio Deluxe before I decided to keep the thing. I did however finally got a sale for the Epi Les Paul Ultra, no thanks to CL. Come to think of it, my nephew got a Fender Blues Jr III for his birthday so he decided he'd give me that Frontman 25R back I'd gave him. I don't blame him. He's happy. I put that thing in CL for 60 (you guys know what they go for new) but I'm willing to go as low as 40. Now get this..... it has a Jensen Mod 10-50 speaker upgrade (which is worth 40 by itself), an extension speaker jack upgrade, and upgraded op-amps.
In addition I'm including the original speaker. This dork e-mails me and states if I don't sell it, he can give me 25. Hmmmm, after some extensive thought, I found a Yamaha practice amp ad for 20 and sent him the info as a reply and concluded with "...and you have five bucks left!" HeHe! Dude needed to go to the "free" section or something. They must think they're the only ones feeling the economic pinch. Heck, I'm on a "fixed" income myself. If it weren't for my amp repair gig, I wouldn't be able to do smack.

zag, that kind of thing is why i only ever had one garage sale. these 'steal something, then cackle to their friends' types are not people i want to be around.

then there was this on the news this morning-after i heard 'banning cash for second hand sales', i searched that on the net and got:

I'll really be surprised if that doesn't get overturned somewhere down the line given that the Fed makes US currency legal tender for all debts. States generally can't supersede the Fed.

Although given some of the the other unconstitutional crap that stands, I guess it would be about right that the Fed would turn their heads on this also.

Beria allegedly said to Stalin, 'show me a man, and i'll show you a criminal.'.

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/RUSberia.htm

this is how injustice is continued to the goals of the unjust.

i dunno. there are rumors of 'local currencies' (which are not actually 'illegal'); i have read one book that claimed that cash would be outlawed to bring in the digital society.  this would make a huge underground market, i think, and cause a large percentage to be criminals. frankly, ridiculous on its face...but....that doesn't mean it won't happen.

if something like this takes hold, things like craigslist and net commerce might be damaged. if it does away with garage sales, i kind of feel like 'good riddance' :) man, that thing was a drag.

so, you have  tsa now patrolling the hiways.  and you have people experimenting with  the elimination of fiscal autonomy. the media itself has long been compromised, and the "coincidental" outage that killed the cell phone usage for several hrs during the occupy wall st. thing.   if the american people don't wake up real fast, it's all over.  after the signs i am seeing,  i doubt i'll return there to live.
my dad was on a boat in the pacific during ww2.  he went in early. his mom signed him in.
what america has become would break his heart.

yeah...breaks mine. very sad.

i think, when i recall 'hippies going to put lsd into water supply', that they may have actually done it in the 60s. seems like we have gone ape stinkum. maybe it was timothy leary who was planning that, or maybe my memory is whacko....
