V Picks?
« on: November 24, 2010, 09:24:42 PM »
I see that Robert recommends V Picks.  I'm thinking of ordering one, but which do I choose?  Its hard to judge one from the other if I can't actually try it.  Has anyone else tried one and if so, were you able to test a few different models?

I have several kinds. I recommend the medium rounded. Very versatile. Shredders should look into the pointy ones.

I ordered the medium ultra-lite rounded and the tradition ultra-lite (2 of each). At four bucks each, thats not too bad. The size and thickness aren't too far off from the Fender mediums I currently use. I expect them sometime this week. Compared the the picks from Red Bear (and I'm sure they are good picks), V-Picks won't hurt your pocket as much. Try twenty bucks for ONE, and that's a "mid priced" one!

I got the medium size pointed one and he sent a rounded one as a sample.   I can't get enough pluck with the rounded ones.

I just ordered two medium rounded, (with one that glows!)  We'll see if I like them or not.

I got the V-picks and they also gave me a ultra thin pointed large pic.  Supposed to be good for acoustic playing.  The picks I ordered have a little more bite and bass tone to the guitar.  I like what I hear.  Word of advice, you may find these cheaper on Ebay because of free shipping.  V-picks charges $3 to ship.

I have the glow in the dark too. They are great for live use. I think I like the medium rounded basic ones best though, together with the Dimension - super thick pick. Kewl. :)

Love the v picks so far.  Can't complain with them.  The help make my strat sound much fuller than a regular pick.  I had others listen to me play just so I'd wouldn't be subconsciously biased.

I hope that doesn't happen to me.  Too much money spent on something as trival as a V-Pick....

Its been a couple months and I still haven't lost one...yet!   Anyway, the freebie one I got, the large ultra-thin pointed pick cracked in half on me.  Normally, I slide a pick between the strings when storing a pick on my acoustic guitar.  I believe this pressure may have caused the pick to warp and crack.  But here's the great news.  Even though this pick was a freebie, I asked Vinnie of V-Picks about warranties.  He just asked for my paypal transaction ID to prove I did actually purchase a pick and sent me a replacement, free of charge.  Now how many manufactures stand behind their products like that?  This time I plan on putting my pick near my acoustic and not in it....

Vinnie is great to deal with - he stands behind his product.

I've been playing my v-pick for awhile now.  However, I'm starting to move away from it.  I seem to slow down on my playing or it doesn't seem to have the attack it once had after switching to the V-Pick.  I love the Thin Large Pointed I have for the acousitc, but the medium round is seeing less and less playing time from me.  I wish I'd bought thinner picks because I found my favorite picks are about 1mm pointed smooth sided picks...

I use the Medium Rounded all the time. There are lots of different V-picks. You may want to give the thin ones a try?

I've been thinking about that, but I really don't want to spend $3 on a pick when I can go back to my dunlop Jazz III for free.
