Vladan, it says 'server not found'...but i don't do no ballantines, anyway..

i no longer buy no jewelry for women. eventually, the woman goes away and takes the pretty sparkly stuff that i like to look at with her ;)

Guitar Talk In General / Guitar Effects Pedals by Dave Hunter
« on: January 29, 2017, 04:49:41 PM »
https://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Effects-Practical-Handbook-Softcover/dp/0879308060

i've had this book for maybe 10 years, but i think i only listened to a little of the cd a couple times...and that was coz i had this predetermined idea in my mind 'well, what about this pedal?'.  duh to me. the other day, my sinus was acting up, so i was looking for something to just sit and listen to that was 'not radio or tv'. i stuck the cd in the stereo...and...

when i say i was truly shocked...i mean it.  this dave hunter, he has written a  number of books...some of them are 'just coffee table', but a couple are damn deep with data and information.  this (and some others) come with a cd. if you have NOT heard the cd, then anything you may think or opine is 'speculation'.  the momma fly told the baby fly 'speck not'.  go buy or check out the book and cd, and you will KNOW something that i bet 75% of the guitar playing public does not know. they say they do, but they are parroting someone else's words or they just got this 'thang', you know?

there is just nothing like 'hearing it for yourself', and not on youtube, either. or some mfr's dvd or video.  i sat right in front of my stereo, and hunter played pretty much identical riffs thru the same amp with the same guitar(s) and same mic or he went direct (and he told you he was doing that with chorus and i think delay..or i might be wrong..but he told ya)....and the skin come off my eyes like the scales of st. paul's!  and the muffs off my ears!

now, there were a few boxes that, yes, they were very, very different...and some 'good' and some 'awful' different.  generally, tho, all that bulls--t is hype and lies.  the closest thing i have ever read that explains the situation succinctly is:

http://www.andersen.sdu.dk/vaerk/hersholt/TheEmperorsNewClothes_e.html

now, having complained about all this, i have some pedals, like the t rex tap tone...they can put it in the box with me.  it's way after hunter's book was published, or my copy, anyway, but i can hear 'the difference' when i mess with the controls....over any other delay i have had or heard...but really, how many distortion boxes are there?  how do all those people make a living, anyway? geez....maybe this is why lately i have been doing acoustic, vocal and harmonica on tracks?

ps, for what i think is an outstanding low price harmonica, look up 'buckeye music'. i got one of their $10 ones and i put it on my last track. i can't tell a lot of difference in the $10 harp and a marine band. blashfeemy!

anyway, what my dad said, 'son, save your money.' applies more than ever to pedals after i listened to the hunter cd.

this has been a pubic service announcement.

Vladan,

'+1' on what you said.

i'm still watching to see what is DONE.  how does it affect the economy? will it affect me? heck, i don't know, but i'm sure hilla___t would have been either like or worse than her husband, and i was WORKING UNDER HIM DOING DEFENSE WORK when he was prez!  if someone doesn't understand national defense and the interplay between nations over world history, all they got to do is look at the *&^% world! allies become enemies, enemies become allies...orwell was correct-this happens regularly. a useful pasttime which is overlooked is 'reading history in depth'.

the bureaucracy is a big part of the problem. will the government change? anyone who thinks politics is not like making sausage would do well to educate themselves in history and economics.  conflict is a natural human condition..i wish it were not so, but i can poop in one hand and wish in the other and see which fills up first. another natural human condition is sticking one's head in the sand and thinking no one can 'see yer fanny'...this is how a bird gets eaten.

i've said more than i intended-maybe i should delete this post, but i'm not-no, by golly, i am going to edit most of it. i have tried to discipline myself to not tell people what they will not listen to and i just did that with this post....and i'm not coming back to look at this thread again. peace be with you all.

hey, Joe! good to see you around!

i get 'business class mail' (ads); i save the envelopes..when i see something i think is interesting, i write it down-link or whatever-and sometimes, when i am in a good mood, i send it to my email list...this time, since some of he email list seem like they are dead...i posted my 'interesting stuff' here. ;)

dang people can't even respond to an email? after 3 mnths i don't hear, i take 'em off the 'contacts'.  in 6 months they write 'are you still alive?', and i laugh...one of these days, i'm gonna write one of 'em back and go 'no'. hahahahaha

as best i can tell, joe, the situation is about the same here.  will trump make a difference?

i don't know. time will tell.  the 'fabric' of this country is 'holey'...the monetary situation is not good.  the gov lies about inflation-they took out food and fuel, so how is their inflation measure worth a doodoo?  the middle class has had the crap beat outta 'em.

there's a lot of work to be done...and if it is done 'wrong', the consequences will be severe, i think...so i am waiting to see. so far, the press and the left wing are so hard down on trump and his prospects, it's hard to tell whether there is any 'truth' to be had.  the truth will be when i go to the small local grocery store, and i see 'hope' in the faces of some of the people working there...and others in like circumstances.  the bs on tv and on the radio is not to be fully trusted, imo.

when ilistend to '60' online, and from the daw, i kept thinking 'i hear something kinda 'sharp' in the recording.'.

i finally decided 'it's digital reverb! and maybe the mic, too' as the mic was a condenser...so, since i had some time this evening, i messed around with the track. people always say 'if you can't record a good track with an SM 58, maybe you need to think some more about how you're singing or set up'. well , i did. i like this better. it's much, much simpler. two tracks-guitar and vocal, and a separate harmonica track. i SHOULDA stayed with the behringer B5 for the harp, but i went over to the SM 58 for the 'solo' and lost most of the room reverb...duh to me. y'all can see if you like this version better...i can't sign into soundclick for whatever reason, so this is on soundcloud:

I read this article; it makes some good points.  With the equipment I have, this looks to me like '8 track tape vs cassette' all over again, or blu ray vs standard dvd.  You'll have to decide if you're gonna 'invest'-and it's 'always going to depend on the quality of the performance', anyway:
