Recording Studio / The Cave

I wrote this in 2008. It took me a good while to decide I was going to sit for 2 hours to record it, and then another good while to get the recording to sound 'level' across the 30 minutes of recording. It's the first recording at the top of the soundcloud page, title 'The Cave':

i may have posted about this site before...some of these might be a revelation.  tracks are isolated to some degree, so you can answer the question'what did they play or sing?'.  sometimes, i hear something that makes me go 'they paid this individual MONEY for this?' definitely a learning experience:

Pedals and Effects / pedal kits
« on: October 09, 2016, 11:51:32 AM »
for those of you with not enough to keep you out of the bars and out of jail, stew-mac is marketing old jhs pedals as kits:

i got to think about this pro-co rat clone.  i like the 'model' i have of the pro-co in a zoom multi.

Amplifiers / tube envy
« on: July 27, 2016, 08:11:01 PM »
i don't know why, but i got to thinking about 'tube envy'.  the argument for/against 'period instruments' has gone on for a long time:

http://www.wqxr.org/story/276810-does-bach-need-rescuing-period-instruments/

https://www.handelchoir.org/PeriodInstrumentOrchestra.htm

i would submit that listening once will  not solve the dilemma for anyone, but perhaps this will help with tube envy:

yeah, Joe.  this place needs some life in it!

so, i quit digging postholes and working fence the other evening. come in the house and got a glass of iced tea. went and sat on the porch.  the barn swallows in the morning and evening do rolls, turns, loops....and almost turn inside out, sometimes right in front of my nose on the porch. i laugh and tell 'em 'pretty bird'.  they are, too.  like a tiny jet fighter, except no ear splitting roar....and then, out this come, like some kind of hairball:

i heard these guys on 'Texas Music Cafe'.  the harmonies and the 'tightness' of the band got my attention:
