Baja Tech Custom Das Fuzz GE Review

This is an awesome Germanium fuzz pedal, made by Baja Tech Custom. I am so impressed. It cleans up wonderfully when you roll back on the volume knob, and it can give a wild but smooth fuzz tone. It is similar to a Fuzzface, but it is smaller and always works great - no reliability issues. This is my favorite pedal right now. It works for blues, rock or almost anything, with a searing sustaining tone. It also has a lot of boost/volume in it - you can use it to boost your overall volume significantly if you need to by turning up the volume knob above 10 o'clock.

New Baja Tech Custom Das Fuzz pedal clip - using my Squier Telecaster and Vox AD50VT on the Boutique OD setting. I prefer to have an overdriven sound to start with, or else I don't get the tone I want. It is easy to accomplish though - either with some amp distortion or with a pedal like the Blues Driver.

Sound - in one word - FANTASTIC. It works on any guitar - Les Paul style, Tele, Strat, you pick - it works well with all of them. I pretty much always use it together with another overdrive or distortion pedal, because it creates a fantastic sustain and tone, while it still cleans up nicely if you roll off the volume knob. So far, my favourite combination is the Blues Driver or the Danelectro FAB distortion. One drawback is that this creates a bit of hum and noise, but I think it's worth it for the great tone you get. The fuzz tone like Jimi Hendrix with the Band of Gypsys? No problemo.

Any drawbacks? Well, it does produce a little bit more hum than my other pedals, but it's not much of a problem. It's noticeable when you have a several pedals hooked up at once, but by itself it's quiet. In any case, some hum is to be expected from a Germanium fuzz pedal, am I not right?

Summary

This pedal gets a 9.5 out of 10 from me! It does what a fuzz should do, and it does with a terrific result. The tone is fantastic, and will keep you playing long after your bed time. The price is a bit high, but not more than other boutique pedals. You get quality. It's very sturdy, and will last a life time. No cheap plastic here!
