Digitech Bad Monkey Review

A fairly new Tube Screamer style overdrive pedal that is very reasonably priced and at the same time sounds better than many pedals costing many times as much. This one is my current favourite overdrive pedal - because it sounds very smooth and is really fun to play with. Plus, it costs under 40 bucks, an incredible deal for a great unit like this. It has a good amount of gain, and it sounds good with pretty much any guitar. It has a bit of a midrangy sound, but not overly so, it is responsive to pick dynamics and makes your guitar cut through well in a band.
Compared to the Blues Driver, this pedal has more midrange is much darker sounding. The tone is very, very nice indeed. It doesn't have an incredible amount of gain, no - it is instead the perfect blues pedal. It gives you just "ooomph" to get a tone with sustain and if you roll down on the volume knob a bit on your guitar, you get a great crunchy tone for rhythm. If I had to pick one pedal from 2005 and give it an award - this is the pedal I would pick!
Seriously, for under $40.00 USD, there is no reason to not get one - even if you already have a good OD pedal. This one rivals pedals more than 5 times its price, and I know of quite a few players who replaced their expensive boutique overdrive pedals for the Bad Monkey!
