MXR Micro Amp Review

Sometimes this pedal is called Dunlop Micro Amp, and sometimes it's called MXR Micro Amp. I am a bit confused which name is the correct one, but mine says MXR anyway.

The MXR Micro Amp is a boost pedal with just one knob. It's great to use with a tube amp; you can boost the signal going in to the amp and you get a nice grit and bite to the tone. I find it works best with a clean amp setting. It gives you that extra boost or "push" that can be missing from a clean amp. For me, it just livens up my playing, and makes it extremely enjoying to play with clean sound. Highly recommended pedal.

It sort of works like a preamp. If you put it first in your effects chain, you can drive long chains of effects or use longer cables without a loss of signal or loss in high frequency tone.

The Micro Amp is very quiet when switching it on, and the bypass is superb - no loss in tone whatsoever. It is also very sturdy and it's metal casing won't break anytime soon.

Summary

It just brings more life to your tone - if that makes any sense. It warms up the sound and gives it a sparkle, plus it also adds sustain. You should try one. If you are into clean, big sounds and not metal, chances are you'll love how this pedal brings more life out of your gear. Playing through a clean tube amp with this pedal is FUN! If you after 10 minutes turn it off, you'll wonder " what happened to my sound?"

Tip - The 19 Sixty 3 clean boost is another very good pedal of similar kind to the Micro Amp. Take a look at it as well.
