I have tons of great lessons at Master Guitar Academy. Join me there - it's where you can learn with me every week. That's also where all my DVDs and Premium Downloads are.

Sometimes, it can sound really hip and cool if you play some "outside" notes in a solo. This lesson shows how you can use the Pentatonic scale to simply move a half-step up or half-step away from the original key. This will sound wrong if you do it too long, but if you do just a few notes, it will sound really cool. Remember to start in the correct key, then play the outside notes, and then come back to the correct key again.

I have lots of gear demos too on this site. Go and take a look at some of my Guitar Videos for some examples of gear I use or have used.
Cool lick and cool shirt.

Comment added on July 21, 2012Can I purchase ''Playing outside'' on a dvd or download? I'd like to see the entire lesson.
Comment added on December 26, 2011It sounds great when you play it but, when I try it, it sounds way off. Is there an easier lick I can start with?
Comment added on December 26, 2011Good stuff, Robert, but it would have been more effective played over a track. More in context that way
