Slowing down songs is another great way to learn from records and your song collection. I use Song Surgeon, which works really well for this. Check it out. |
John Mayer is a good blues player. He plays with a lot of feeling, and I picked out some idea I heard him play on the song In Repair. These styles of licks are great to use in a variety of styles of music. It's bluesy, but it would fit into rock, pop, soul, country, etc just as well. A good staple lick, using the D minor pentatonic!
Understanding I-IV-V is an intensive 65 minute video that will give you a crash course on guitar theory. It is not a complete lesson on music theory. Instead, this is the perfect introductory tool to get you started on the guitar, or to reveal the secrets of the fretboard that you are not aware of yet. You will learn why chord numbers are far more important than chord letters, how to write your own songs and chord progressions effortlessly and endlessly, and much more.
I use Guitar Pro for most of my video lessons. It is a great product that will not only show you the notes in both TAB and standard notation, you will also HEAR them being played at the same you see them. Very helpful for learning! Click the link below to try the free demo.
I have lots of gear demos too on this site. Go and take a look at some of my Guitar Videos for some examples of gear I use or have used.
What can I say Robert?
Another awesome lesson from you, the guys above are correct you have a no bull straight to the lesson style that I have come to regard as a class act.
Cheers Mate,
Rich.
just discovered your site and am blown away by your video lessons. your delivery is perefect, it's almost like you're in the room.. I've tried others and and have gotten crazy over the way they blab and don't stay focused. Will certainly be back and support this site..
Comment added on December 12, 2011Good start. John Mayer, IMHO, is becoming one of the great blues players. I think he tries to "walk the line" between what sells, and what he loves. He DOES have some great pop tunes ... but he's at his best when he is playing the blues. KUDOs to you, Robert ... you have a great ear, and you don't care if your opinion strays a bit from the general consensus. I think you'll find, though, that JM is regarded well among those who actually play blues guitar. He's not SRV just yet ... but he is on his way!
BTW, one of the best concerts I've ever heard live was John Mayer at the Gorge, on the Columbia River in Washington State.
Create more JM licks; compare them with some other greats. Then make a bundle, and I will buy it.
Thank You, Robert;
Take Care For Now;
Mick
