Get into the groove with some funky guitar! This guitar lesson shows how to play a simple groove. A proper right hand technique is very important in order to keep good time and make it sound funky. The technique of the left hand is also very important, because it will take care of the muting of the strings.
I hope you can learn from this technique and use it in your own playing. When the technique is working for you, there are many songs and riffs you can learn or even create yourself. The cool riff in the Stevie Ray Vaughan song Couldn't Stand The Weather is perfect for this technique.
Understanding I-IV-V is an intensive 65 minute video that will give you a crash course on guitar theory. It is not a complete lesson on music theory. Instead, this is the perfect introductory tool to get you started on the guitar, or to reveal the secrets of the fretboard that you are not aware of yet. You will learn why chord numbers are far more important than chord letters, how to write your own songs and chord progressions effortlessly and endlessly, and much more.
I use Guitar Pro for most of my video lessons. It is a great product that will not only show you the notes in both TAB and standard notation, you will also HEAR them being played at the same you see them. Very helpful for learning! Click the link below to try the free demo.
I have lots of gear demos too on this site. Go and take a look at some of my Guitar Videos for some examples of gear I use or have used.
Love this funky groove, thanks for showing us

Comment added on February 06, 2009I appreciate the way you slow down and and break each part into simple units of learning. You have a great gift of teaching, not just playing. Thanks for the lesson. This is my first lesson in funk. Great job.
Comment added on March 23, 2008Graham, that is very inspiring to hear! It is sometimes hard for me to find the time to continue producing decent videos, my I keep trying.
Cool that you got your guitar there, G&L make great guitars too.
Hey Robert,
Thanks so much for this entire series of lessons. You have found your true calling as a great teacher and a great musician. This is the most inspiring practical site I have ever found. I have really made progress in a matter of hours using your 'can do' videos. Thanks so much.

PS I have a G&L White Strat that I bought in Zobrist's guitar shop in Seattle where Hendrix bought his guitars.
Thanks Wikrama! No, I don't practice so much - I don't have much time. I should practice more though!
