Fusion Blues Lick Video Lesson

Guitar Theory Made Simple!

Understanding I-IV-V is an intensive 65 minute video that will give you a crash course on guitar theory. It is not a complete lesson on music theory. Instead, this is the perfect introductory tool to get you started on the guitar, or to reveal the secrets of the fretboard that you are not aware of yet. You will learn why chord numbers are far more important than chord letters, how to write your own songs and chord progressions effortlessly and endlessly, and much more.

Guitar Lesson Overview

Here's one of my signature licks. I guess the style is a bit like Robben Ford meets Scott Henderson meets Robert Renman? You can see in this video how I apply a lot of pull-off and hammer-ons; it's not alternate picking the whole way.

In this example, the is played over an E9 funk vamp. It's an "outside" lick, meaning there are a few notes that don't really relate to any particular scale. I think it sounds pretty cool.

The lick kind of starts off with a rockabilly-style start, then goes into an outside jazz idea, which moves into a diminished triad, then ends with a blues phrase. How's that for a combination of styles?

This is an absolutely beautiful lick. Please post more of your signature licks! I love your SRV, Albert and B.B. King licks as well but you have a great individual style and phrasing and it would be nice to hear even more of that. I ran across this site about a week ago and have had difficulty leaving it. Your work is greatly appreciated!
