SX SJB-57 Electric Jazz Bass Review

April 7, 2006
I bought my SX SJB-57 Electric Bass from Rondo Music, and it arrived today. It is a copy of a Fender Jazz Bass, and it has a nice, shiny maple neck, which I prefer. It was set up really good, I must say. The color is 3 tone sunburst, and with the maple neck contrasting, it looks really beautiful. This is an electric bass I am quite sure I will keep for a long time.

It is a bit front heavy, so using a strap while you play is a good idea, or else it tends to fall "over", meaning the headstock wants to hit the floor.

The neck finish is so shiny it almost feels sticky. In order to fix this, I just took some fine steel wool and rubbed the neck for a while. Just to take off some of that lacquer. Just be careful and don't take it ALL off.

The two jazz bass pickups sound very good for an instrument in this price range ($119 from Rondo Music). They produce a distinct, clear tone which works really good for recording. No problems with muddy bass tones any more.

You can get one too at Rondo Music!

Overall, I am very impressed by this instrument. It feels wonderful to play, and the pickups are more than decent, considering the low price of $119.00. I highly recommend the SX basses, especially for beginners and intermediate players, or guitar players like me who want a good, low cost electric bass around for recording purposes. 2 Thumbs Up!.
