Our newest family member Bamse, born February 2005. This breed, Miniature Pinscher, is also referred to as Toy Dogs or Min Pin. Isn't he beautiful!
He is very cuddly, and likes to sleep under the blanket in a family member's bed. The drawback with this is that it ends up being dog hair in your bed. The Miniature Pincher is a very special kind of dog. They are independent, yet in deep need of attention, affection and love.
In May 2006, our little min pin ran away on a Friday night because we weren't careful. We had him in the yard without a leash. We were up for hours trying to locate the little pincher, to no avail. It was pretty cold that night so we were worried we might have lost him for good. On Monday morning we called the dog pound in the city, and they said the Police (!) had picked up our miniature pinscher on Friday night and handed him to them. We got a warning, and on the paper it said "dog at large" - kinda funny! Now we are much more careful making sure he is on a leash if has to go out by himself.
We had big problems deciding on a name, and we first named him "Vovven" (means "the puppy" in Swedish), but we renamed the little toy dog to "Bamse" - a Swedish cartoon Teddy Bear character. It is kind of funny, since the cartoon Bamse is super strong once he eats his honey. Our Bamse isn't very strong, although he sure has lots of guts and knows how to speak up for himself.
