My Race Results 1997
October 18, 1997, UMEMARAN, quarter marathon (10550 m). My last race for the season was probably the best one. I didn't feel too tired until about 8 k, when the winner Mats Lundin pushed hard. I did what I could, but Mats just flew away after we had passed 10 k in 31.50. He outran me with 10 seconds in 550 meters. I am quite content with this race, though. A good confidence booster for the winter training!
September 21, 1997 TRACK AND FIELD, UMEÅ ÖPPNA, 1500 METERS. Ola Torstensson beat me this time! I ran a bit cowardly, which I suffered from in the end. It is hard to beat this guy on the last 200 meters! I did what I could, but he was 3/10 of second ahead of me. It was difficult to run due to quite windy conditions, so I guess the time is ok for me. I still believe I could run a lot faster in better conditions and with more people keeping pace. Also, we both suffered a bit from the tough racing the day before. Laps: 66, 68, 70, 48.
September 20, 1997 SÄVARÅE'T (Relay).
We ended up 2nd this year. Sporthuset showed up with a very strong
team, while we had a team weakened by injuries and sickness. We
were not able to give them much of a challenge this year. But remember,
IFK always comes back !
I am happy with my own leg; I ran a 12,1 k leg in 38.52. I started
slowly but was able to run much faster after the first 5 k. Of course,
you can never trust these distances are correct. Still, I believe
it could be my best run this year.
September 13, 1997, UNIVERSITETET RUNT, 10km
Road Race, 32:33. A good race. First 5 in 15.49 and I had
to slow down a little bit from 8 k and in. Still, a good time on
a tough course (asphalt).
Julius Mtubani won in 30.40, and Ludvig Edman 2nd in 31.02
September 4, 1997, DM 10 000 m, SKELLEFTEÅ,
32.21,36!
Finally a new PR! I am happy with this race, especially the fact
that I didn't drop my pace in the end; something I have done far
too often when racing. However, in this race nearly every kilometer
was between 3,12 and 3,17 (I think the last one was in 3,09). I
passed 5 k in 16,11, and the last 5 k in 16.10. Talk about an even
pace ...
Lately, I have been training harder than I normally do, and it seems
to have helped. I feel quite strong at the moment. The weather was
good, 16-17 degrees Celsius, and not so windy. Ludvig Edman was
the dominating man this evening and won in 30,51.
1. Ludvig Edman 30.51,49 SIF
5. Robert Renman 32.21,36 IFK Umeå
8. Lars Mattsson 33.52,05 IFK Umeå
July 27, 1997, KALOTTKAMPEN, OULAINEN, FINLAND 10,000 M. This was a nice experience. I ran for Sweden in these track and field events, and having the blue and yellow clothes on gave me proud feeling. It was also my first attempt on the 10,000 meters. My time was not as good as I had hoped, but I am still content with being 3rd.
1. Artoo Määttä 30.53,66 Finland
3. Robert Renman 33.05.20 Sweden
5. Christoffer Österlund 33.32,10 Sweden
July 16 - 19, 1997, VINDELÄLVSLOPPET
Leg 5 day 1 - 8,6 km.
I did ok, it was very warm and difficult to run fast. I was 2nd
in the competition class and my time was 28.57.
Leg 3 day 2 - 17,1 km.
This was a painful experience. I ran alright for 6 kilometers, but
after that my legs gave up. I struggled to get a time of 1.01,07,
around 3 minutes slower than expected. In spite of that I managed
to be 2nd in the competition class.
Leg 1 day 4 - 14,6 km.
I think I ran best on this leg. I ran even and ended up 2nd in the
competition class here too, with the time of 49,55.
July 5, 1997, JULISPELEN SKELLEFTEÅ 3000 M. Here I hoped to improve my PR, but with a very slow second kilometer (3.05!), it was impossible. Mats was very strong on the last lap and I couldn't match him. My teammates both did good results.
Results, Men, 3000m:
Results men juniors (ran in heat B):
June 28, 1997, SKELLEFTEÅ MIDNIGHT MARATHON - SKELLEFTEMILEN. This was a race I'm quite content with. I started slowly compared to the other runners and advanced through the field. On the last 4 kilometers, me, Mats and Ola fought hard and Ola proved to be the strongest of us. On the last few meters I managed to do a "maniac-sprint" and passed the finish line just before Mats.
June 13, 1997, TORNE RIVER RUNNING FESTIVAL.
This is a nice relay that goes from Torneå in Finland, through the
Torne valley on the Swedish side of the river Torne River, and then
back on the finnish side, and finally ends in Haparanda in Sweden.
The relay starts Saturday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon.
We did okay most of the time in this race, and third place seemed
really safe when our last runner started. Unfortunately, he took
a wrong turn and lost too many minutes.
Final team result: 4. June 7, 1997
June 7, STOCKHOLM MARATHON. Baaaaad,
baaaad race!! It was mighty hot, between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.
I started out ok, 37.18 on the first 10 k. So far I was feeling
alright but my legs started to feel heavy. When I got to the half
in 1:20.42, I was feeling no good. Then after 25 k, my legs more
or less gave up. Ahh, so tough!! I struggled on the best I could,
but it only got worse. After 30 k, I had to walk at times and I
lost all chances of doing a descent time. I was down to 6 min/kilometer...I
thought about quitting more than once, but since I've prepared myself
thoroughly for this race I wanted to get to the finish - no matter
how long it might take. And, it sure took some time to get there....
3:08.22!
But I promise to do better next time (how can I fail?)!!!
June 1, 1997 DM 5000 m. I played brännboll on Friday. Bad thing to do. My legs were really heavy today and after starting out at 3 min/k speed, I dropped everything after 2 k. I expected to do around 15.45, but I could do no better than 16.03,04 this time. I'll break the 16 minute barrier big time in the next 5 k!
1. Per-Åke Sandström 14.52,84 SIF Umeå-Skellefteå
2. Ludvig Edman 14.56,65 SIF Umeå-Skellefteå
5. Robert Renman 16.03,04 IFK Umeå
May 25, 1997, BJÖRKSTAFETTEN.
This relay was no fun. I ran the 3rd leg and we were in 3rd place
when I started. I was maybe 20 seconds behind the runner in front
of me, and I didn't see where he turned. I came to a crossing where
there were two big arrows pointing to the right. There was no one
there to guide the runners, so I followed the arrows. BIG MISTAKE!
I ran a leg that wasn't a part of our relay; so I lost more than
4 minutes.
Our team 1 ended up as 11th, team 2 finished 5th and team 3 17th.
Malux Data from Örnsköldsvik won , with runners from Vingarna.
Sporthuset Herr, with runners from SIF, finished 2nd.
May 15, 1997, PRK 1500 m. This race
was dominated my Jörgen Marklund from start to finish, I never
got in the race at all. The weather was also bad, very windy, cold
and not very inspiring. I'm sure I can't do worse than this...
Here are the results:
May 10, 1997 Vännäs half marathon.
This race had a lot of good runners. I finished 10th, after running
an even, slow pace. My time wasn't what I'd expected, but I guess
it was acceptable. My team mate Ola Torstensson did a good race
and finished 7th. At the same time as the half marathon there was
a 1/4 marathon. After a very good race, Rikard Hedelin won easily
and Jörgen Marklund ended up 3rd.
Here are the results:
Half Marathon:
1. Mica Comstock 1:07.26 Flemingsbergs SK
2. Per-Åke Sandström 1:08.57 SIF Umeå Skellefteå
3. Ludvig Edman 1:08.59 SIF Umeå Skellefteå
7. Ola Torstensson 1:11.32 IFK Umeå
10. Robert Renman 1:13.49 IFK Umeå
27. Pontus Albertsson 1:36.11 IFK Umeå
1/4 Marathon:
May 2, 1997, Broarna Runt - IFK Umeå
Top Five!! I was 4th in the 5 K race "Broarna Runt"on April
31th. My time was 16.41, a time that hopefully points in the right
direction for me. My running has been going not too well lately,
but I think things are starting to change now.
My teammates J. Marklund and R. Hedelin had a good fight, but Marklund
showed to be the stronger one on the last 300 - 400 m.
Here are the top results:
I won The Resolution Run in Edmonton!
This was fun! I won the 5 k Resolution Run in Edmonton on New Year's
Day with more than 30 seconds.
The weather was tough, - 20 degrees and the road was a bit slippery;
the reason to why the time wasn't better than 17.30.
I was quite happy to start the new year with a win in a race!
Maybe I can come back one day and try it again, maybe in a warmer
time though...
