The new Fender Excelsior tube combo amp is getting a lot interested looks from guitar players. No doubt - the Fender Pawn Shop Special Excelsior looks incredibly cool, and it produces some great tones as well. The Excelsior amp has brown textured vinyl covering, a stylish "E" grille design and an impressive looking crossed-swords front-panel badge. It reminds me of WW2 radios, only it sounds a lot better!
This amp is produces 13 watts of power. The Excelsior comes with a single 15" Special Design speaker. The amp controls are at the top, and it is powered by two 6V6 output tubes and two 12AX7 preamp tubes. This amp has very little amounts of amp noise.
Some cool features on the Fender Excelsior include "instrument," "microphone" and "accordion" inputs; a tremolo circuit with speed control; a tone switch for bright/dark tone and a quarter-inch internal speaker disconnect, which lets the amp drive an external speaker cabinet.
If you don't need a lot volume, the Excelsior is a real class act . I wouldn't bring it to a rock gig, but for smaller gigs and for recording, the Excelsior is a great little amp that makes you go WOW when you see it and when you play it.
And the price? Only $299!
Well done, Fender!
