Hand Wound Pickups - Porter Pickups

I have come across an interesting pickup maker by the name of Porter Pickups. They provide handwound pickups, and I have a set of 50s Strat pickups I will demo soon.

The man behind the company, Brian Porter, is a firm believer in the tradition of making pickups how they used to be made - hand wound. Porter Pickups make is possible for the customer to have a pickup custom wound specifically for them, tailored to their preference and style of playing, and with the best materials.

Porter Pickups doesn't have dozens of pickup models, but they do have several custom options available with each model and pickup style. Each model of Porter Pickups includes several color, cover, or bobbin choices. You can also get a bridge pickup hotter in a set, or get one of their vintage clone pickups wound to a specific year, which is all included in the pickup price.

There are 3 types of single coil models available, but Porter Pickups do provide custom wind pickups to specific vintage year specs if you are looking for something speficic. All Porter Single coils feature a RW/RP middle pickup for hum canceling in positions 2 and 4 on a 5 way switch. Each Porter Single Coil model is wax potted unless otherwise requested, and features your choice of 4 different cover colors included in the price.

The set I have is the Porter 1950's Vintage Single Coils, featuring staggered AlNiCo 5 magnets and are wound with same spec heavy forvmar coated 42 AWG wire used on the real 50's pickups. These pickups aren't too hot and most find them just right for many classic single coil sounds that have become so famous in the old recordings. Our 50's set is a tribute to the single coil tones than have become legendary.

I am putting these 50s pickups in my old Mexican Squire Strat, and I'm quite excited about this. I am also upgrading the bridge on the Squier, so with both of these upgrades, I think it's going to be a great "backup Strat", so to speak. Not sure when I a demo will be made, but keep an eye out for this, okay?
