I have been contemplating upgrading my video camera for a while, and now I have finally done so. I was having some problems with my lighting setup with my video camera. Lots of glares, especially when I was wearing glasses.
So, I found a used Panasonic HVX200 and decided to go for it. I love this camera. It's easy to work with, sturdy and the picture quality is a dramatic improvement compared to my old camera. The Panasonic HVX200A is their latest version of this camera, and it is even better, because it handles low light much better than mine. However, I use a lot of light for my work, so I should be fine with the older HVX200.
One great feature is that I have 2 XLR inputs on the HVX200. It makes it easier to capture good audio, and the sound quality on the camera is fantastic when I use external microphones. The built-in microphone is only so-so.
This video camera records onto P2 cards, which are solid state memory cards that are very reliable and powerful. The only drawback is that they are very expensive, although the prices on these cards seems to be going down.
The recording format is DVCPRO HD, and it can record in a variety of resolutions - High Definition 720/24p and 1080/60p/i being the most common. The HVX200 can also record in Standard Definition onto MiniDV tapes.
As a result of getting the HVX200, my work flow is now much improved, so I can quicker produce videos that both sound and look better than ever before. No wonder I am excited!
I will use the HVX200 camcorder for all my guitar videos and lessons from now on. The picture quality is much improved, as well as the audio. Anyone who buys my products and follow my youtube videos will definitely get much better looking and sounding videos!
I highly recommend the Panasonic video cameras. Panasonic build cameras that are a pleasure to use, and the picture quality and functionality is top of the line.
One of the best places to buy from is B&H Photo Video - they have the best prices I can find on new gear, and the service is excellent. Tip - they have a used department too! Sometimes you can find great deals there.
