We have lost another blues legend, the blues rock giant Johnny Winter died in his hotel room in Switzerland on July 16t 2014. He was 70 years old.
He was playing his heart out until the end, and had many upcoming gigs scheduled. He was actually scheduled to begin a United States tour beginning August 1, 2014.
Johnny Winter recorded a lot of great albums over his nearly 50 year long career, but his biggest success came when he received three Grammy awards as a producer for another mighthy blues legend, Muddy Waters, in the 1970′s.
Johnny was for me a huge inspiration. His blues-rock style influenced so many future guitar players. When I listen to guys like Joe Bonamassa, Walter Trout or Gary Moore, I hear a lot of Winter in there! He had chops galore, and a very recognizable style. He was also a master on slide guitar! What an amazing guy we lost. Rest in Peace.
Here are some of his most popular recordings. Check them out.
We will miss you Johnny.
