Prince Rogers Nelson; June 7, 1958 - April 21, 2016
I am devastated to learn that Prince has passed away.
He has been a huge influence throughout my life. He was a true Master.
So, to celebrate his greatness, today's lesson is a kind of a Tribute to Prince. This is an example of one of the things he taught me. Funky rhythm guitar, from a groovy song called Chelsea Rodgers.
I know a lot of people haven't quite grasped why people like myself view him as one of the greatest. I encourage you to read this article, to explore his musical history, and keep an open mind. Not everyone like the way he sang, but you have to remember he was constantly evolving, trying new things.
In my view, he was the best live performer I've ever witnessed. He was much more than a great guitar player, a good composer, or a stylish artist. He was the epitome of a Master Musician, and his influence on other artists was enormous.
He was one of the most talented artists I have ever heard, and his art was his life. He lived his art, and didn't compromise. He got criticized for that, but I always admired his devotion to his art. Nothing else mattered.
Prince, Nothing Compares 2 U. Thank you for a lifetime of amazing music.
