Raw Guitars

There are so many guitar builders and luthiers out there these days. I have to say I am glad I am not in that business, as it seems so competitive. I got an email today about company called Raw Guitars. They look quite nice. The Texas Blue is a sweet looking Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute guitar.

Designing and developing a range of guitars were, according to company founder, Simon Raw, immense fun and very fulfilling. Throughout the Winter and Spring of 2009/10 his ideas took shape. Simon takes up the story of how one of his designs, Fusion, took shape:

"As my background is in product design and ergonomics, I needed advice from an experienced luthier. Jim Fleeting fitted the bill perfectly. His knowledge on building, wiring and setting up the guitars was essential, if my ideas were to get further than my sketchbook. I was extremely proud when my first guitar received positive reviews, but I knew I could design something better. My first build had an acoustic style bridge, so I thought why not utilise this feature and experiment with acoustic under saddle pickups and create a hybrid. I ran the idea past Jim and he said “why not, go for it”.

Simon believes that the electric guitar is more than just a stringed instrument, it represents all we love about rock n' roll: Rebellion, attitude and sex. His first priority when sketching a new idea is to make it look cool, sexy and beautiful, if he does not achieve that, the sketch goes straight into the bin and he starts again.

Best of luck with Raw Guitars, Simon!
