Tribal Tech X Review

Finally, Scott Henderson, Gary Willis, Scott Kinsey and Kirk Covington got back together to record a new studio album. It's been a while. In fact, it's been over 10 years since the last album!

Well. the wait is over, and it was certainly worth waiting for. This album is full of great compositions, great grooves, and great improvisation. It feels very fresh and powerful.

Scott has been my favorite guitar player for decades. Not surprisingly, his playing on this album is top notch. Great, fat Marshall-like tone, and his whammy bar technique helps create a fluid approach to guitar improvisation that is creative, powerful and inspiring.

However, everyone in this group has grown as players since the last album. The sophistication of the playing and on-the-spot-composing is mind-blowing. Want complex changes? Check. Want ripping guitar solos? Check. Want groove? Check. Want tasty fretless bass solos? Check. Want super cool keyboard sounds and awe-inspiring improvisation? Check.

This band so deserves a bigger following. If you are into jazz, electric jazz, fusion and advanced improvisation with swing and groove - you NEED to get this album.

I give the album 11 stars out of 10. Just because I can. :)
