The Myra Marshall band live at the Rusty Spur in Camrose in March 2013. This is a real fun tune to play. Some rough spots here and there, but you know it's live, that happens.
The way we play this tune is inspired by Robben Ford and Michael Landau. Check them out for inspiration. Landau's double live album from 2006 features a killer version of this tune.
I used a Line 6 POD HD300 into a Fender Vibrolux, and I boosted the signal after the HD300, just on the solo parts. I normally don't use the POD units live, but I decided to try this time, because our setlist required a wide range of tones with minimal gear on stage. It worked out quite well on the gear front.
It's always fun to have recordings from gigs, but it's also unpleasant. That is because I am reminded of my shortcomings. I try not to dwell on it, but it's in human nature to be self-critical. That's okay, I can do much better in my home studio, with unlimited amounts of retakes! Live is live, and that always comes with a price - sloppiness and mistakes are hard to hide.
Anyway, I try to ignore rough spots when I listen to it, and try to enjoy it for what it is (doesn't always work!).
Let me know what you think. Feedback is always welcome.
One of these days, we'll do a real studio recording with fewer mistakes! Haha!
