: Community project: In The World
: Vladan May 10, 2014, 07:37:39 AM
Here's the idea:

In below clip, there are some key pads laying down chords, changes, should you prefer the term.
The ideaa is to add more instruments in following clips, drums, bass, rhythm guitar, melody, ...,
and finally solo guitar over it.

Also, I'd love if some of you, those who feel this is on their level, would take it and do your own thing over it.
You can use it from whatever stage of development. From only keys to complete tune, and do whatever pleases you.
With composition, aswell as with recording. I'd appreciate if you'd credit me by giving original link, or whatever. I'm
not to come to controll, though, so don't worry.

Also, it would be nice if you'd post your results here. If you don't feel like posting, please send me some link on PM, or e-mail, so I can hear it.
Again, no obligations, pure curiosity.

Here's the clip (BTW it's 3rd part of a road trip series from Serbia to San Marino and back). Later today, I'll post a link to chords progression:

After listening, listening again and careful thought, I came to the conclusion that I lack (or do not possess) the level of creativity nor ability to accomplish such a feat. It would be nice, but no dice  ::) !  While the  possibility does exist, the probability is doubtful at best.

Zagatron,

don't give up without trying.
Although it may seaam complicated at first sight, it is not, reaally. If you don't know how to approach it, wait till the later stage, when I add more instruments and just shread over it in D major, or B minor pentatonics, or whatever.

Here's the link to a page with .pdf - http://carcameraclips.webs.com/files , The name of the file is "In The World"

There's couple more pdfs there.

I've received first responses. It's all band in a box, no live instruments, and as per request from the guy who made these, I uploaded them to www. For the pourpose, I've opened SoundCloud page. So, should anybody else wanted not to give own links, you can send files to me and I'll upload them to SoundCloud, ok, .... here it is:

In second of the two, I could hear what I would regard as the "root" melody in the mix. In other words, it is more "pronounced". Is that ALL band in a box or is someone (you might know) playing guitar in the first example? n I ask because I kind of envisioned (in my head) a guitar part somewhat similar to what I heard. It's just a different story (for me) to put it into play. That stuff sounds like the aeolian mode is being used. I've been devoting my time lately into working with the dorian mode.
: Re: Community project: In The World
: Vladan May 12, 2014, 09:05:19 PM
It's all machine, no live playing. BIAB has some real tracks option, where it mixes together bits and pieces, samples, of live playing. That's what this guy used.

For the modes, I would not know. Piece is mostly in D major, or B minor. B minor is Aeolian mode of D major, D major equals to Ionian, but I don't think that way, anyway. if you're in Dorian mode, you should play E dorian over this to be in key, but why would one do so when there's only one or two e minors along the way? You could play D Dorian and be all blues. You could play B dorian, too, for more Jazzy trip. In all mentioned, now and then, some notes may not work.

Ok, here's the next step from me, now with added Bass, also, you can see what Verona, Italy looks like on a rainy April day:

Okay, you talked me into it! I'm gonna work on it to see what I come up with.

Another step, drums are added to the mix. Also, in the second half of the clip again only keys andd bass, because bass was wrong on couple of notes in previous clip ....

So, here's the trial recording with Intro and melody played on guitar. I could hardly play that intro in tempo. Could not get the feel. it was not musical enough.

Therefore, I edited it, sort of visually quantized audio to the grid with small random offsets, all based on idea "If I can't naturaly make it musical, I'll make it mechanical, and I'll do it mechanicaly".

Note, I played lying in the bed, with numbnes in left arm from elbow all the way throygh the edge of the palm, to pinky and ring fingers. It's all from awkward position i'm in for 5-6 days already. I'm still on antibiotics and have laptop with me, so I'm costantly twisted to the left with lower part of left arm under me, to support me, head on left shoulder, while I type with my right hand/ arm. I tried playing this while seated and it was much better, much easier to follow the tempo. In a day or two I'll record it all again, probably with some rhvthm guitar, too.

Hah! Now you know what's been takin' me so long. My problem was (to quote what you just wrote) "Could not get the feel". Tryin' to follow that was like drivin' on an unfamiliar dark winding road at night with the  headlights off and to top it off, havin' the interior lights on! :o Yes my friend, hard to follow. Especially for someone who doesn't know his notes as well as he should  ::) (Me!)! I must admit I like your way of thinkin'. The idea about makin' it "mechanical"! Now rhythm guitar is an excellent idea too! Maybe I ought'a give that a try.

At least, now you can hear the propper melody, so you can use it to develop from, as a basis for improvisation.

So, Stage 5, where Rhythm guitar is added. Played on tele, twice, for one chorus, tha pasted to the following.

Actually I did this couple of days ago, but did not upload it due national days of mourning to commemorate victims ofthe flood we had last week. I'm from Serbia, but it was nothing better in Croatia and Bosnia. The worst one in more than 120 years, so they say.

Intro solo is now good enough, I won't redo it, it's all played, no audio quantization. The moment I got up from bed, in sitting position, I could play it. Also, I've changed from 25.5 scale Tele to 24.something X-155.
Guide melody on guitar throughout the first chorus is the same old edited one, with the synth one for the rest 2.

The next and final step will be improvising over it.

Stage 6, the final stage. Solo guitar is added.

it's all played, on Squier Telcaster MIJ E6....,  no audio quantization.

Improvisation on the 1st and 3rd chorus, melody on the 2nd.
Previous melody on guitar is removed. One on the synth doubles for the 2nd chorus and supports occasionally in the 3rd.

Vladan,

since i am at the start of the month, i have a full 'digital subscription', so i listened to the final version...pretty cool. i like the concept of video/added parts. i would have to download from soundcloud, put in my daw, add track, but sometime when i have enough 'digital cap' left, i might try that.

good stuff!

Thank you Reb, and thank you for having interest.
I'll try to upload to Soundcloud audio only versions of previous stages.

BTW, to download only audio from YT, you can use the following site, or any similar:

Thank you Creekster, whatever it is, in harmony, style, or whatever, I'll always end playing what I play, somewhat adapted r'n'r and blues. Even over blues and r'n'r. I can't play styles, I just try to fit "good notes" into proposed rhythm and form.

BTW, I've uploaded all stages to Soundcloud.

Some notes and thoughts about independent artists giving their stuff for free,
and possible reward for the deed:

1. It is wrong. More and more, people expect art products be given out for free, especially music.
However, there's no other way because major labels' artists are there available for free, already.
If, for example I, would charge for listen, or download, even these 50-200 people would go away.

2. When enjoying independent unsigned and free, turn off ad block and alike.
It is annoying, but being served an advert cost you nothing. Clicking on an advert also cost you nothing.
On the other hand it can bring couple of cents into authors' pocket.
For example, I do not use ad block, and if served an advert of interest, for a nice guitar, or whatever,
I click on it, even though I know I will not buy anything. Just like I click adverts on this forum.

3. Important thing for independent author is sharing.
Whenever you like something (enough), do not click like, but click share instead.
Do not expect others to be fair and share back. For example, approximately, I share interesting independent stuff
some 10 times more than whole WWW community share mine.

4. Subscribe to artists you like, and stay subscribed.
If info from channel is annoying (I don't know really, I do not send anything, only what YT automatically does)
do not unsubscribe, just mute those posts somehow.
For example, I subscribed to a lots of channels that after a while proved to be not so good. I did not unsubscribe
from any. I've just marked them not to be shown in my stream, or if that is impossible on that platform, I just ignore
the info I receive.

Regarding your statement..."More and more, people expect art products be given out for free, especially music. "

The marketing strategy previously meant going on tour in order to generate sales through retailers. These days musicians produce music to go for the tour dollars, which include direct marketing opportunities at concerts, and to generate traffic to websites.

The internet has definitely resulted in a paradigm shift in marketing strategy for virtually everything, and created opportunities for musicians who previously had none. And, there are still some musicians who do not intend to be commercial. They just want to be heard.

"I found him by the stage last night
He was breathing his last breath
A bottle of gin and a cigarette
Was all that he had left

I can see you make the music
'Cause you carry a guitar
But God, help the troubadour
Who tries to be a star"

So play the chords of love, my friend
Play the chords of pain
If you want to keep your song
Don't, don't, don't, don't play the chords of fame

I totaly agree, but ...., that's only one aspect of the issue.

The real issue, for me,  is in intelectual property and rights.
Recently, on one completely unrelated forum, someone made
analogy between royalities for authors (of musical work) to
cutlery, in wording:
"You do not pay for the spoon each time you go to eat the your lunch".

It never occured to him there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Okay.....so much for the legal stuff. Now Vladan, I present to you my "attempt" at adding an ingredient to the mix! Now let me stress, "attempt"! Gave it a shot anyway. ;D ;D  Check it for errors then grade it teacher!

Hey, man, this was great.
It's always kind of strange to hear someone else going over your own compositions. I'm glad you did it this way.
Some trully beautifull moments.

Regarding legal stuff, do you agree I to upload the take to SoundCloud, In The World Project page and share that link,
if you agree on sharing first place? Of course, I will credit you exactly as per your instruction.
Also, I can set it there to be copyrighted as different Creative Commons type (other people can use it under certain conditions,
from not asking for permition at all, to meeting some agreement), or standard (no unauthorised use, written permition needed).
