Yes, their are called used Fenders and Gibsons.
Heck, I am aware we pay more for our gear than over there in the US, but I got my two Gibby MMs for £400 for the both of them
And I know that the new MMs and even the Jnrs can sell for less than $800 over there, because they are less than that over here.
I love the lower end Gibsons, they are easy to mod, tough as old boots and pure rock n roll
A used Fender MIA will cost you less than that too.
We in the UK have a couple of homegrown makers that will do you a UK made guitar for £450, which is less than $800.
There must be a US equivalent of Gordon & Smith guitars....?
