Miscellaneous Gear / Armor cable Robert's demo
« on: January 23, 2011, 10:22:59 AM »
Hi Robert
I don't know if I post on the right place...
I heard your Armor cable demo on your Dolphinstreet site
I love your tone (and your playing too...)
Could you tell me what's your gear setting (save the cable) to get this nice overdriven sound?
Thanks

Miscellaneous Gear / How do you adjust your pickup height?
« on: January 23, 2011, 09:53:56 AM »
How do you adjust your pickup height?
I mean the mini/maxi fork from the pup upper pole to the string (under) fretting the last fret
Far from the strings, thin sound but easy intonation set up (equal on each pup selection)
Close to the strings, big sound but difficult intonation set up (different on each pup selection)
The reason: magnetic influence on the strings vibrations
Fender gives a base measure for their different pups type and specifies to first adjust the height pickup (less or more according to the sound you want) and after adjust the intonation
Even doing that, the intonation is different on any pick up selected
I don't understand why
Let me know your thoughts

Electric Guitars / Guitar maker
« on: January 11, 2011, 12:13:49 PM »
Hi everybody
You like to look at pretty guitars?
I know, you'd surely want to play them
That would be possible... being in France...

Here is the link for a talented guitar maker site (in french)
I'm not interested in his business at all... even I am admiring his work
He is, too, a pretty good Blues guitar player

Amplifiers / Power attenuator
« on: January 02, 2011, 09:55:02 AM »
Hi everybody
I like that friendly forum
Some members want more activity
I agree
I go with mine

I own a Fender Blues Deluxe 1996 40w
I like the clean sounds from this amp, but I don't reach to get that "sweet spot",you know, when the amp begins to cranck, this setting where you get a clean sound picking lightly and an overdrived sound picking hardly
The volume setting with my Bluesband is max 3/12
At this point, the amp is really loud but always clean
For that reason, I wonder about a power attenuator
I can find a lot on the market less or more expensive (rather more...)
I plan on the Dr Z airbrake lite
200€, 45w max, -11db, and you can scew it inside of the combo
Any experience with this one or others power attenuators in this forum?
Happy New Year to everyone

Electric Guitars / Coil cut
« on: November 29, 2010, 03:53:47 PM »
F... I'm in the mud
My bridge pu vintage noiseless is out
No sound!
After desoldering and mesuring him with my ohm meter, no doubt
The coil is cut
Using my magnifying glass (thanks my dictionary for that pretty world), I discovered that the coil wire was cut on the connection with ground wire (black wire)
1) I know before dying he was alive
but, how a wire can cut like that?
2) I'd like to repear it but I can't
It's too short (logical)
3) May be, I could take away the scotch around the coil and take off one turn of wire
This way, it would be longer and I could resolder it on his terminal
Is that possible?
4) Can I change the braided material scotch (I don't have it) by another type?
5) Is my pu definitively lost?
Thanks a lot for your suggestions
Please, use right english words my dictionnary knows... Sorry...

Amplifiers / Cab and amp
« on: November 01, 2010, 07:12:12 PM »
Hi everybody I need help!

I want to bye a poweramp and a cab to achieve my rack (Marshall JMP1 preamp + TC Electronic G Major) to get a rock tone
I really can't spend many money and my choice would be:

 - Rocktron Velocity 100 poweramp 2x 55W into 4 Ohms, 2x 40W into 8 Ohms, 2x 28W into 16 Ohms, 19"/1U
I know it's a solid state amp and will not sing as a tube amp
But 230€ on Thomann site, I can't go higher unfortunately

 - Harley Benton G212 Vintage guitar cabinet - 2x 12" Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, 120watts/8ohm, 2x 60watts/16ohm, mono/stereo (switchable)
195€ on Thomann site

Now my questions, if anybody knows 'cause i'm really newbie with electronic

1) Is the amp able to drive that cabinet without any damage (I think yes...)

2) The power cab is 120watts/8ohm, 2x 60watts/16ohm, mono/stereo (switchable)
Can somebody tell me the impedance of each load speaker?
Celestion site says V30 nominal impedance 8 ohm and 16 ohm
There are 2 types? One 8 ohm and the other 16 ohm? Or one LP can have these 2 impedances?

3) The cab is switchable mono/stereo
16 ohm in stereo and 8 ohm mono
That means the amp will drive 28w in stereo and 40w in mono?
The question may be stupid, 'cause I think I have the answer, but if someone can confirm Thanx

4) What is the quality of the stereo with LP near each others and mostly if I put the cab in vertical position?

Thanx for your help
