Electric Guitars / Looking for a new solid body w/ tremelo.
« on: July 25, 2012, 02:08:23 PM »
First let me say, I'm into the medium price range guitars. Not that I don't like nor appreciate some of Gibson's finest, but I'd die if I took a $3500 Gibson to a gig and some drunk clutz knocked it over or otherwise damaged it. So I'm looking at a top price of around $700 +/-.

I had been playing my Epi Wildkat with my new Fender Super Sonic 22 amp and was liking the ability to use the whammy bar, but for some reason, the Wildkat with its P-90's and hollow body really wants to feed back with the new amp (especially w/ the reverb turned up for 'surf' or the 'fat' feature boosted with a pedal). Never had the problem with previous amps, but it's a problem w/ the SS22.

So, I'm looking for a solid body with a tremelo. I really prefer humbuckers and have a dislike for the visual aspect of "horns" on a guitar (i.e. the upper protrusion on a strat. or some of the Ibanez 'RG' types) I like Epi Les Pauls, but none I see have tremelo. An SG shape is about as much "horn" as I care for. (I know...I'm very picky)

Finally getting around to my question :-\:Two guitars I found as possibilities are the PRS Santana SE and the Epi 1966 Wilshire w/ Tremotone. Anyone have any first hand experience with either of these, or another guitar that would meet my criteria????? If so, a link to an audio/video demo would be appreciated.

Amplifiers / Talk about Tone! WOW

In my continual search to find "The" amp w/ the best tone, I came across the Tone King Imperial and an excellent video. Pricey for we common non-professional musicians @ just under $2000, but I put it on my "bucket list"  :)
What amps are on your "bucket list"...link to video demo. ::)

Electric Guitars / Epiphone ES-339
« on: September 21, 2011, 11:20:03 AM »
The last guitar I was jonesing for was the Epi Nighthawk and I didn't pull the trigger :-\

I just learned that Epiphone is releasing an ES-339 this November (2011). I favor the semi-hollowbodies (such as the ES-335) for tone, but not for their height in the rear bout, a common complaint by many. I've been looking and looking and listening to demos of Gibson's ES-339 since it came out, but I just can't spend $2000. Now we have an alternative for $499. (There's also another version with additional acoustic type pickups and electronics for, I believe, $799.)

So, perhaps I'll buy myself a Christmas present ;D

I'm getting a strong urge for one of these :-\ They're to hit the stores around March 1st.
Opinions? :-\

Electric Guitars / David Thomas McNaught custom, hand-made guitars.

Never heard of these until the other night I was looking at a demo on Youtube. http://www.mcnaughtguitars.com/
Had a good sound and they are "eye candy" for sure. Anyone have any experience w/ them? They're pricy and remind me looks-wise of some of the Carvins. Just couldn't keep from "looking" at them. :o So, thought I'd post the link so everyone could share some eye candy.

Amplifiers / Ibanez TSA15H
« on: December 26, 2010, 08:35:30 PM »
I've had the TSA15H amp head for a couple months now and I like it a lot. Anyone else have one, or played one at length?

Playing through a 1X12 cab w/ a Celestion seventy/80 it sounds great both on the clean and tubescreamer channels with and without the boost on. I ordered a new cab which is a Lopo line vertical slant with one V30 and the other a G12H. It should arrive in around a week.

The amp is quite loud even in the triode mode, but more so in pentode mode.

I still haven't found the perfect amp and I keep searching. This amp sounds a bit "dry" since it has no reverb. I fixed that with an inexpensive Behringer DR400 (Rvb w/ delay) run through the effects loop. I don't know yet if the 6db boost will be enough for increasing the volume for soloing as I have not yet used it with a band. If it doesn't, I'll use my Seymour Duncan twin tube drive pedal. I've already tried the pedal and amp together and the amp takes to pedals well.

I'd like to read what others think of this amp.
