Pedals and Effects / Bondi Effects Del Mar Overdrive
« on: January 23, 2018, 07:50:50 AM »
Seems all of a sudden(to me anyway), that these pedals are now fetching "Klon type" prices now, when you can find one.
Maybe, I answered my own inquiry. Bondi Effects now has a pedal that they say had started out to be a revision of the Del
Mar pedal, but took on a whole new character. It's the "Breakers Overdrive". Check it out -

I'm winding down, so I'm not biting on that stuff no more. They come out with this stuff faster than these new guitar makers
come out with guitars. Somebody somewhere is doin' good for the market to be flooded with gear, year after year. They must
be doin' something right and/or the guitar is makin' a tremendous comeback in popular music or music in general. I dunno.

Guitar Talk In General / Covered or Exposed?
« on: September 30, 2016, 10:44:45 AM »
A little somethin', somethin' to throw out here for you humbucker owners! Do like prefer your humbuckers covered......or exposed (or open coil)? Now exposed bobbins are cool lookin' an' all, but I prefer covers on mine. Can't have it both ways 'cause I currently only have one guitar with 'em.

And no, I for one don't hear any "audible" difference between havin' exposed ones versus covered ones. Maybe 'cause I ain't been in my twenties in forty years. I do know the pickup’s magnetic field may be affected by the cover’s plating materials, so as a result brightness may be reduced by nickel, chrome, or gold plating, but as I stated, I wouldn't be able to tell as the amount would be very subtle.

Amplifiers / Overdrive Special

Hey! Anybody need a potentiometer for their guitar?

Amplifiers / Tube Pedals
« on: July 22, 2016, 07:48:08 PM »
Y'know, did ya ever wonder why some folk turn their noses up to solid state items most notably amplification devices (otherwise known as amps)? It's said that tube amps are "warmer", more "touch responsive" an' other things you probably already know. Well, I agree to all that since I have both tube AND solid state amps, but I don't find it necessary to bash those who for whatever reason use them.

Mostly all of those who do th' "bashing" use pedals right? It's pretty obvious that pedals that actually run tubes in them don't seem to be sellin' as well as their fully solid state counterparts. I have a Maxon RTO880 (the small one)!  Maxon had this to share on their website -

"After more than 20 years of loyal service, Maxon is retiring their Real Tube Series models RCP660, ROD880 and ROD881."
I see they have the "Real Tube II Series" out now. Wonder how long they're gonna last?

So, what's up with that? I guess that question falls into th' same category as that world famous question "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop?" The world may never know!

Electric Guitars / What do ya think?

Pedals and Effects / Ibanez OD-850
« on: June 11, 2016, 08:44:12 PM »
Just when I think I just about got it figured out, here comes something else! Anybody heard of an Ibanez OD-850? In a world of  TS-808's and TS-9's, here comes this animal! I couldn't believe what I saw! Never seen one before today (6/11/2016) and I didn't believe what this thing's goin' for!

Reverb.com, has th' 1974 version of this pedal with an estimated "used" value range at $225-$400! This one here's askin' $595 for this uh, well go figure! I thought maybe demand dictated some factors, but there's obviously a hell of a lot more to this than meets the eye. Sheeesh!

I can think of a lot of other items to spend that dough on............but that's just me. I gotta remember that.

Recording Studio / Might as well submit one too!

Amplifiers / New from Boss
« on: January 31, 2016, 09:00:22 AM »
I know some of you folk have heard about those "WAZA" pedals that came out not too long ago, but it looks like Boss got a new amp out too this year! 150 switchable watts! The head? $2499 by itself! 4 footswitchable channels! Well isn't that special? ::)

Impressive! Nice if that's what floats yer boat.

Dolphinstreet Lessons / Harp-harmonics, Artificial harmonics?
« on: January 19, 2016, 09:01:02 AM »
Whatever you call 'em, I haven't seen lessons on these (in my experience at least). I use 'em rarely and I found I had to "alter" my technique as I think my index finger was too close to the finger I was hittin' th' string with. Rather my pick, so as a result I was chokin' th' notes and they wouldn't ring out. Now I KNOW how to do it better. Trial an' error I guess.

Pedals and Effects / Electro-Harmonix
« on: October 20, 2015, 08:15:32 AM »
I see these guys are on a roll so to speak with these fairly new (and out of the ordinary) products they got out on the market. Here's just a few.

I know you well informed guitarists here probably already know about these.
Oh yeah, been a while. Hope all are doing well.

Pedals and Effects / Okay...c'mon now!!!
« on: June 15, 2015, 08:42:07 PM »
J. Rockett Audio got a good thing goin' with th' Archer pedal an' all, but when do you say when? I mean, I got one (silver) currently on my board and I love it. It's a keeper for sure, but now here comes this one -

So now LIKE the real deal Klon they have not only a silver, but a gold one they call the Archer "ikon". Purdy thing it is in all it's golden splendor. Guess it's "exclusive" to Pro Guitar Shop for now since I haven't seen it anyplace else. Same look, gold case. Supposed to be  more compressed than the silver Archer and anything else so subtle I can't hear. Oh, and let us not forget about th' “magic” diodes the real deals (Klon) have that they have finally discovered and put in these babies. Maybe it really is worth th' extra 20 bucks over th' original.  J Rockett, you alright, but I ain't fallin' for that one.
