TOKAI - MIJ - Tokai LS2-F

Hi,

has anybody here made experiences with the Tokai Les Pauls made in Japan?

Its really hard to get these in Germany as no official dealer will sell them (mostly ppl sell them really rare on Ebay).

I have the opportunity to get a Tokai LS2-F for 1.299 € at a really small guitar store near my house. (good so I can test it (-:)

Haven't had one myself, but I hear (and read) they're good alternatives to Gibsons.

I have had a MIJ Tokai Les Paul Custom copy.

Very high quality guitar. Very easy to play - it often seemed to play itself.

It's price level was that of a Gibson Les Paul Studio, but it was more in the Gibson Les Paul Standard for sound / quality. OK - it had no nitro finish.

Had the same heavy weight as the real thing too!

From what I've been told, they are better than Epiphone in quality.  Some say they are on par with Gibson.  Hard to get in the US because of copy right laws against Gibson.  Kind of gives you an idea how close they are to a Gibson...

A bit off topic, but after having played the new Vintage guitars and the fact they're only $400, that's where my next money is going.

I have been looking seriously at the Vintages myself, in particular the V100 Lemon Drop, they get a lot of rave reviews.

I've had a few Vintage brand guitars - currently have two. They use Wilkinson hardware which tends to make them good value for whatever price point they are at. Trev Wilkinson seems particularly skilled at getting the most out of a tight budget situation. The set up isn't always that good ex Factory - but easy enough to sort that if necessary if the shop / retailer doesn't adjust it.

Was at the local guitar shop yesterday.

The owner told me that in his opinion the vintage guitars CAN be good.
The problem is that, lets say if he orders 10 guitars of the same type, 3 of those are really bad and
should have failed the quality check. The others are really good guitars and just
need a setup.

He told me he just sends them back and keeps the good ones (-:

Btw... ordered a japanese Les Paul yesterday. Will post some pics when I get it  - should be around tuesday...

Somehow yes... I get paid double income per month in November... for xmas... good tradition here (in German its Weihnachtsgeld)

Also sold a Guitar that I rarely play.

Ordered a FGN Neo classic Ls 10 in Lemon drop. Street Price is 1.399€ in Germany.
Hopefully I will get it tomorrow. Will post some pics then.

Nice! Double pay for a month would be cool.  I'd settle for not paying taxes for a month!
