Coil cut
« on: November 29, 2010, 03:53:47 PM »
F... I'm in the mud
My bridge pu vintage noiseless is out
No sound!
After desoldering and mesuring him with my ohm meter, no doubt
The coil is cut
Using my magnifying glass (thanks my dictionary for that pretty world), I discovered that the coil wire was cut on the connection with ground wire (black wire)
1) I know before dying he was alive
but, how a wire can cut like that?
2) I'd like to repear it but I can't
It's too short (logical)
3) May be, I could take away the scotch around the coil and take off one turn of wire
This way, it would be longer and I could resolder it on his terminal
Is that possible?
4) Can I change the braided material scotch (I don't have it) by another type?
5) Is my pu definitively lost?
Thanks a lot for your suggestions
Please, use right english words my dictionnary knows... Sorry...

those Fender Noiseless pickups are near impossible to fix.  They've been known to go bad.  Hopefully, you bought them new and can get warranty work for them.  Or else, I'm afraid you're in the market for a new pickup....

Coil cut problem resolved

My Fender noiseless bridge pickup had the upper coil wire cut near the solder
Unfortunatey, this wire came from the inside of the coil and no way to take  off a turn
My brother came at home this night
In ten minutes, he fixed the pickup!
I had no coil wire to solder
He cut an unsoldering braid ply to lenghten and soldered it exactly at the same place
Multimeter measure:
 - upper coil: 5.16 kohm
 - down coil: 5.16 kohm
 - general dc resistance on the 2 pickup conductors: coil A + coil B = 10.32 kohm
No place problem to fit the pickup cover
Great! My noiseless is right to use now!
My custom Strat with Clapton electronic is ok!
Thanks brother!

Do I have to insulate these two cm of naked copper to prevent from moisture?
With what?
Candle wax? Anti-moisture spray for electric devices for cars? A product who allows a future fix?
Any good idea from you, musical fellows, is welcome
Sorry for my unlikely english...

Candle or Bee's Wax will work, but if those aren't completely dry prior to coating them, you could lock in moisture....
