SX guitars are good
« on: December 04, 2010, 12:44:32 AM »
SX guitars are worth a look, since they are so cheap!  ;)

I have 2 of them, and they are not bad. Quality is similar to Squier. I've seen a few that were so-so but I've also seen a few that were VERY nice.

Check out Rondo Music where you can get some great guitars for little money.

TIP - go for those guitars over $105 bucks - the ubercheap ones are usually not as good.

Have you tried their semi-hollow bodies?  Its tough buying a guitar you've never actually played...

Sure. May cheap guitars are very good now. Usually needing some modification, though.

SX are not that easy to find here in Europe. Walton's in IE has some on their website. Plus there's a Spanish website for SX that seems to have different set of models compared to Rondo....?`

SX also offers combinations of features not available elsewhere. For example, I'd like a 32" Fender P-bass that was light weight. Don't know if they have them, but Fender sure doesn't!

I was looking at the SX guitars above the $150 range, at those prices, I'm getting into Les Paul/ES copies, not Strat copies.  I could buy a used Epiphone for the price of some of the SX semi-hollow bodies.

Are you certain the used Epiphone would be so much better?

Nothing is certain.  But I can try the Epiphone before I pull the trigger.  I have a hard time buying any guitar that I have played yet.  Just because it looks nice, doesn't mean it feels or sounds that way....

Here is a web page with some prices of $100 guitars here in japan

for beginners these guitars are ok, I've played a few at the local shop. My feelings though they are worth about $60 considering they really only cost about $6 to $7 to make and buy in lots of 100 from a chinese manufacturer

It's always a crap shoot as to whether it will feel right. I've bought 2 guitars without playing them first, both off eBay. The Ibanez was ok, but it never felt 'right' for me. The second was a Fender Squier SE Strat which I still have and it's a good one considering the low price on those models.

I've since sold the Ibanez and still have the Squier.

I know a few people who really like their Agile LP's.  But just like many of the lower cost guitars out there, don't expect to get even half you money back if you plan on moving on to something else.

They did have a Medium Scale P-bass, But at the moment, all they have is a 32" Jazz bass.

Just so's you know, one of the cool things about ordering anything from Rondomusic, whether it's an SX, Agile, Brice, or Douglas guitar or bass, if you get a bad one, Rondos' retruns policy is perhaps one of the better ones available on the internet. Pretty much if you are dissatisfied for any reason, ship it back at their expense and they will either exchange it or refund your money without hassle.  Add that to the low cost and  it's a fairly low risk endeavor.
