What does religion mean to you?

Do you consider yourself a religious person? Why or why not?

I'm an agnostic.

I think Emile Durkheim was correct in saying, Religion is a Means of Social Organization.

The only thing that comes close to what I believe in is Deism. I don't believe in "Organized religion".

I'm with you on that one, Zag. I also don't believe in forcing your beliefs upon others. Let people choose for themselves.

When I was young and going to church, they said "believe". Till this day I ask myself "why do you have to believe", isn't it true to begin with. Well, that has always left doubt in my mind and felt uneasy about the teaching of the Christian faith. I feel that yeah, there are "religions" that are helpful, but do we really  continue on living after we die here on earth. Maybe not, maybe we do, but as far as I know, Jesus never came back and told us that we go to another place after dying. I'm a Christian, but something has always been missing, maybe is it true or not true that believing in Jesus Christ as our Saviour will get us into Heaven. I do know when one faces illness, something spiritally happens to us.

This is a good point by K Felder -

"[..] if you define faith as "you don't have much evidence that something is factually true, but you decide you really should believe it anyway, so you close your eyes and grit your teeth and believe as hard as you can," then I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that. I can't imagine why God would want us to do that. Maybe that's just a lack of imagination on my part, but that's where I'm stuck: it just doesn't make sense to me."

I guess there are many who find comfort, guidance and many cases by it being passed down through the ages, accepted as a part of life.

I think we are seeing it in Israel right now. A total mess.
