Just a thought

I find it amazing that in spite of what you pay for a shall we say "lesser model" or "low end" Gibson (ie. Studio, etc.), and the lack of amenities like a hardshell case for anything under uhhhh...$1100. Even Epiphone will use an inlay of their name of their headstock. Gibson will use the same silk screening they use for the "Les Paul model" decal for their name up until you pay mmmmm..... maybe $1450 or so (for Les Pauls anyway) then you get an inlaid Gibson name. Personally, I believe a set neck guitar should have a hard case. That's just me. Anything less is unacceptable.

Yet in light of all this, they (Gibson) still has their devotees and followers that bear allegiance to this wha....112 year old company? Well, they weren't so cut corner-ish way back when so.........ah you get th' picture. Won't be long before your sub-$1000 Gibson guitar will be made in Asia somewhere! It will beneath them to deal with that "stuff"!

And hardshell cases are expensive to buy separately too. I suspect they have a good markup on cases...

$230 for a case!? You can get a nice Squier for that money... :o 8)

What I'd expect is Fender to shut down the Mexican Plant and make them in Asia.  Gibson should also do the same on budget models.  They should change their headstocks to Gibson shapes.  Forget those lessor models.

Well, that's something to think about I guess. Fender already has their name on some Chinese made guitars already. Fender's "Modern Player" line comes from the same place the Squier "Classic Vibe" comes from. It seems those companies go out of their way to make sure they distinguish the good stuff from the "lesser" models. Things like headstock shapes an' all. My Japanese Epi Les Paul is just as much Gibson as a Gibson. Small bridge posts, Gibson shaped headstock, the right neck heel an' everything. They weren't for export. The Tokai Love Rock is the same way......... more "Gibby" than a Chinese Epiphone LP. Oh well. Keep folks guessin' I reckon.

I was surprised that the Gibson Studio comes with a soft gig case.  I found the Studio I want to buy at Ishibashi.com  A new 2014 model for about $720 US bucks.  I thought it was a fairly good buy for the money. Hope they still have when I get my pension soon.

You found one at Gibby Studio THAT price? You're doin' good! Oh, and don't worry, they'll still have 'em when you get your pension. Just don't count on it bein' the same price. Nah, I don't know, just messin' wit ya! ;)

Anyways, I still feel uneasy with a set neck guitar in a gig bag, but that's just me.

Gibson is really lost right now.  They are trying all sorts of stuff to keep people buying.  But these aren't cars.  People don't go out and buy, buy, buy... We buy once in a while and keep the herd thin.  They really need to step back in production...

I wonder what kind of folks their R&D team are seeking out or targeting? Almost all of their "affordable" guitars like th' Les Pauls for example, have either that weird ass Min-ETune tuning system or that "dorky" G-Force automatic tuning system on top of having "chambered" bodies. I'm glad I don't need anything from 'em. I bought used to get what I wanted. Some of th' new stuff even "feels" cheap. You hafta spend about what.....$2800 to get something "unchambered" (like a Traditional) and you still wind up th' lazy man's tuning system. Yeah, I'm old school lol  ::) .
