Covered or Exposed?
« on: September 30, 2016, 10:44:45 AM »
A little somethin', somethin' to throw out here for you humbucker owners! Do like prefer your humbuckers covered......or exposed (or open coil)? Now exposed bobbins are cool lookin' an' all, but I prefer covers on mine. Can't have it both ways 'cause I currently only have one guitar with 'em.

And no, I for one don't hear any "audible" difference between havin' exposed ones versus covered ones. Maybe 'cause I ain't been in my twenties in forty years. I do know the pickup’s magnetic field may be affected by the cover’s plating materials, so as a result brightness may be reduced by nickel, chrome, or gold plating, but as I stated, I wouldn't be able to tell as the amount would be very subtle.

function, not form for me.  i don't care 'how pretty it is' if it don't perform, so, i got some buckers in a box...and they are covered and uncovered...but they're in a box coz they sounded like..ahem...

having said that, if it's purty and it performs, man, that's OUTSTANDING! ;)

Covered. Like my balding head in Canadian winter.

robert, when i lived almost as far north as you are, i had a russian hat made out of black rabbit fur. i cut my hair short, as it's nothing but a nuisance....but my head was always cold from november to march or april up there.

dunno if the buckers get cold, tho.  maybe saw buckers do. :)

I think the best covered pickups are the Lace Sensor pickups. Simple style, yet elegant in design.
