Wow, what a bummer. I think the DeArmond guitars I used to own were made there. They were great guitars too.

while the story may or may not be true, (i don't actually know)
i would be suspicious of any cause tom morello is involved in.  they could rock, but ratm was the biggest bunch of phonies in rock.

Many guitars out there were made in Korea.  Guess I should just sell all my stuff and buy American?  I used to live where the Cort factory was.  Its a big city area, so I never knew it exisiting.  Fender used to make its Squires there which in my opinion were much better quality than China/Indonesia.  I believe PRS SE models are made there today...

Hopefully they can come to a resolution.

The real shame is that the market for guitars is in the state it is in where American made are so expensive creating a demand for reasonably priced guitars which are made in countries where workers aren't treated as good as American workers where they generally get a much better deal.

frankly, i don't believe it's my job as a consumer, to police the companies that make the goods i buy.
that's why countries have governments, and judicial systems.

i want affordable goods. i will source them in a way that is most convienient to me.
if someone somewhere in the world worked in a sweatshop to make it, i certainly won't feel guilty about it.   i worked hard for my $$. i want the best value i can get.   that's as far as it goes for me.
i don't buy american because it's overpriced and over hyped.  i buy japanese cars and motorcycles, i buy guitars from korea and japan, clothes and other goods from at least half a dozen 3rd world countries.  i've had some pretty terrible jobs for crap money.  i was glad to have them when i needed them.

Good point, diaper head.

Most people would be surprised to know that a lot of those workers in those 'sweat shops' in third world countries are making a lot more money than their peers at the local jobs in those countries.

While their wages may be a lot lower than ours in the US or Canada, they are still a lot higher than the wages those workers could normally make.

I would guess a lot of those 'sweat shop' jobs are highly sought after and I doubt anyone has to force the workers to take those jobs.

The Korean made DeArmond guitars I used to own were virtually flawless. They were fitted with electronics in the U.S. The only modifications I had made to them were replaceing the cheap plastic nuts, and leveling & recrowning the frets. I'm still kicking myself for selling them, but I desperately needed money at the time.

If we're going to get on a don't buy this band wagon, anyone looked into how and where all of our consumer goods come from?  I'm sure most of them are made in places you and I would never want to be imprisioned at.

I guess I can feel a little better about all my instruments being made in America (Fender American Standard Jazz bass), Mexico (Standard  Strat), Indonesia (Squier VM-J and VM- P basses) and China (SX P-bass), all fine instruments.

People in 3rd world countries have to work and they get paid less than we do here in America...but they need to eat. If you put those companies out of business those people will lose their jobs.  Think of that.

It is a problem here in US that many companies move overseas to to produce things for less money.  The bad things is Americans lose jobs.  But I cannot usually afford to buy American made products.  As there are fewer jobs for people here and the jobs become more service jobs the people in this country won't be able to afford to buy more expensive things.  :P
