Hello from Oklahoma City
« on: January 15, 2011, 05:55:42 PM »
Hello,  well my name is J.B. and I have been playing 20 years or so, I am 42 years old and i used to tour with metal bands in the late 80's, early 90's. I began to really dislike that genre of music and packed it in for a normal life in 1998.
I had always written my own music and never learned how to read music or theory and when i decided that i wanted to play guitar again, i did not have a passion for the music that i had taught myself to play anymore. So it was like starting back at square 1 or maybe 2 because at least i had the ability to play. Then in 2004 i cut 1/2 inch off of my frethand middle finger with a table saw. I thought it was over, but i adapted as best as possible with my other three fingers.
Then thank god for the internet and Robert, his lessons gave me new ideas on playing guitar and resparked my love playing. I rediscovered a therapy that i needed and although i cant play like i used to i can play stuff i never dreamed of learning thanks to Roberts mellow style of teaching. I cant wait to play my guitars every day again.
So i want to say thank you to Robert for the time and effort he puts into this site, he probably doesn't understand how some guitar lessons could make a diffference in someones life but sometimes its the little things.

Hi JB and welcome to the forum. This is about the friendliest place on the web. I hope you feel at home here. I certainly do. There seem to be a lot of "older" players here, as well as youngsters. I feel it's a great mix.

Hi JB, I'm a newbie myself, so welcome, some nice  helpful guys on here. You have the same initials as my favourite guitarist, not a Jeff, a Joe.
That's bad news about your finger and a table saw ! Man that had to sting ! But hey you seem have to got along with it and play. Well done, triumph over adversity, you the man !

Like everyone else I'm happy to hear you've been able to overcome and have found a way to play again. We're glad to have you here!

My step dad also lost part of his frethand middle finger.  He played guitar for years afterwards and adapted himself to not use that finger.  He stopped playing for years before picking up the bass and loves it.  Glad you found the passion.  Robert covers many different styles of music, so that's a rare teacher indeed!
