 I just ordered the black version from my local store, it won't be here until July! Seymour Duncan has made replacement pups for these guitars if you are unhappy with the stock ones. Epiphone are great bang for the buck, I have a mid 90's Sheraton, 1275 Double neck, G400 Custom, Les Paul Junior, and soon, a Nighthawk, and I really like them all. Granted, the pups aren't exactly boutique, but they are adequate, and the build quality is terrific for a guitar at this price point.

I find it rather interesting that Epiphone is promoting replacement pickups in a guitar they just came out with.  Does anyone else find that odd?

Yeah. I didn't know about that though. I haven't done anything to my two Epi Les Pauls (Ultra & Studio Deluxe) but change strings.

I had a Epi LP Standard.  I replaced the pickups with Gibson BB pro's, huge difference in tone.  Sounded much better than any Gibson Studio out there.

I lied... I forgot I DID put 490R/498T Gibson pups in my Epi LP studio deluxe. I haven't played it in awhile. I don't know or care what it sounds better than, but most importantly, I like the way it sounds, and that works for me.

That's how it should be. Certain pups likes certain wood (and amps) to be the sweetest. I did a lot of pup swaps on my guitars and finally settled down to keepers.

The D'Activators I have likes mahogany and SS amps for example.

I discovered that for a short time BB King endorsed a Gibson model known as the Little Lucille.  Good luck finding one though!  The regular Lucille's aren't common in the used market and I cannot find a Little Lucille anywhere...

First time I heard of, or seen one. I believe they were only made in 1999. I understand it's a member of the "Blueshawk" family (1996-2006).

They were blowing those out at Musician's Friend 5-6 years ago. Man...I really wanted one!

Wiki says they were produced 1996-2006.

Those must be one of the hardest Gibson's to find, just short of a '59 Flying V.  They must be great guitars because those who have them aren't letting them go.

those are great pups, i have them too.
for the 335, i am doing a 57 classic neck with a plus for the bridge.  all the clarity of the BB but not quite as hot. a little more woody.
