You can buy used guitars in guitar stores....I got my acoustic used in a guitar store...and it's great; and I got a nice Ibanez bass in a guitar store...brand new it was $300 and I got it used for $125.

The Epi Dot I played was used at $235.  It was a nice guitar, but I've decided to set my sights on a nice acoustic guitar first...  My old Ibanez is starting to fall apart...
