How to upload audio files
« on: May 25, 2011, 02:58:58 PM »
I don't provide storage for audio files here, but I am going to give you some suggestions how you can do it.

Option 1. Get a free account at www.box.net - it's an easy and free way to upload audio and pictures.

Option 2. Get a free account at www.dropbox.com - also simple and provides a direct link to your file(s)

Option 3. Get a free account at http://soundcloud.com/ - cool interface and works really well.

Use one of these options, and upload your audio file there. Then you just copy the address where your sound file is uploaded, and paste it into a post on this forum. That's it!

Hope that helps!

Thanks Robert! I have accounts at all three, and will be getting my small mixer out of storage tomorrow. I have already set up Audacity and my Behringer UCA202 interface...very simple and inexpensive!

So Robert...Do you think dropbox is the simpliest to use?

P.S. I'm just waiting on a cable to arrive and I should be good to go!

Thanks for the info, Robert.  :)

I have been using box.net for a while and it works great but after using Dropbox and learning a little about it, it seems a lot easier as far as uploading files, etc.

Actually there's no 'uploading', at least not manually. Drop a file in the Dropbox Public folder on your PC and it automatically is uploaded or synced to your online Dropbox. Then just rightclick the file in the Dropbox folder on your PC to get a link to it.

this is the headbanger i deal with all the time due to my 'liveinstall' computer rig....dropbox wants me to download it. there is no where on my live install (even a flash drive, which os will not access and run, because it has no hard drive, and therefore no parallel translation to the download) to put dropbox.  i am hesitant to use my windows 7 computer on the internet due to past hacker issues, but i guess i'm going to have to view any windows computer as 'a consumable' :) if i want to participate in the collaborations.  i need to find a source for really cheap hard drives, i think...hacker gets in one, take the blow torch to it, put in another one.

yesterday i fought with puppy linux and box.net for about half an hour...box.net can't get fully loaded by puppy...for whatever reason. i'm not a software guy....

this is all why i started with soundclick...i can transfer an mp3 from my live install to soundclick.
