Oh yeah, also I'd like to ask this question... why are folks so hard on Mexican axes (Strats, Teles, etc.) They are excellent platforms for modding, upgrading or whatever. And you still come out cheaper than buying a HIGH dollar American piece. Not that there is anything wrong with American. Everybody cannot afford that stuff. Folks that play for fun deserve something decent too. I personally ain't buyin' no guitar that costs more than my car just to sit at home to play the thing. I used to play professionally but not now.

i agre on the mexican strat part.  as for the other part, i REALLY agree. it's why i don't have a custom shop or a vos les paul. but i do have 2 really nice korean guitars.  i could afford the gibson but why?  so i can feel guilty and pawn it next time i get laid off?  at least with my korean guitars, even though they play and sound like a boss, they ain't worth squat.  so when money gets short i get to keep em.

I have a MIM strat.  Its their deluxe series Roadhouse with a deluxe series Lonestar neck (rosewood versus maple neck).  4ply tortise pickguard, tinted neck, texas specials, and better fretwork.  For the money, that guitar is better than the American Special or Highway 1.  In fact, a friend wanted to trade me his American Standard for it, but I'm not a fan of Candy Cola.

I hear that DB! I do have one American Strat in my collection. It's a 1983, Fender '62 reissue Strat (Fullerton,Ca. plant). I wouldn't have that if I didn't inherit the thing. It was from my older brothers' estate. He bought it brand new back in the day. I lost him in 1986. I was playin' SGs back then. I currently also have a MIM Strat.... it works for me. No complaints. It's not stock though. Lace sensor pups, CTS pots etc. You know the deal.

Lindy Fralin tells us somewhere in this that this is an MIM tele. when i listen to it on the akg headphones, i'm just amazed at the twang inside the sound....so, for what...$499, and a couple hundred bucks for the pups, one gets what may (if you bought the pick of the litter at the store when you bought the tele) be a much better than average tele....

it's all in the recipe....and what a person wants.

Some people prefer form over function.  Thankfully, this forum is not like that.  Robert is a great example of making great music out of not so great guitars.  But he knows what to do to make a cheap guitar sound like a million bucks.
