American Strat

I'm looking for a used American strat.  If anyone has one they wish to part with, I would be interested.

I don't have a strat for sale, but I did see the local Guitar Centers had a couple for $700 or less and a G&L Tribute for $400 (really beat up body)

Marketing for sure.  So instead of allowing a guitarist to naturally wear down their finish, they'll do it for your in an expert like fashion and charge you extra to make you new guitar look like its really old and pulled from a land fill.

I just use GC to test instruments and small stuff.  I try as much as possible to avoid the sales tax on large items.  The problem with Strats is their inconsistency from one instrument to the next, even within the same model range.

No kidding, but the same can be said for almost any brand.  No two guitars sound or play exactly a like.  They can look the same, but not "feel" the same even though the spec's are the same.

I just got lucky and put 50% down on a used 2003 Highway 1 Strat.  Total cost after tax is $404.  Needs some TLC and new plastic, but seems to be in good shape!

From what I was told, the guitar belonged to a teenager who had the guitar for a couple of years.  Didn't play it often, but had fun "making it his own".  Most of that stuff may come off, but it might have stained the pickguard and control knobs.  Those are fairly easy and cheap to replace.  My guess is the kid never did a proper setup, so the guitar may have the action set with the string two inches above the 12th fret.   I bet the truss rod has never been touched nor has the pickguard ever been removed.  The only part I'm concerned with is the kid used touch up paint all over the body.  I'm really curious to know how bad it is.  I still haven't seen it in person.  But a buddy of mine is driving up there tomorrow to visit family, so he's going to check it out for me.  Sure hope I know what I'm getting into....

Typical probably a spoilt brat, Mom & Dad forked out for a nice Strat & seeing he didn't pay for it he proceeds to stick graffiti all over it,
If he was my kid I would have stuck a size nine up his butt.
Nice score by the way you don't see them for that price in the land of Oz. ;D
