The older I get the more ANY semi-acoustic seems to appeal. Big, small, deep, shallow ... whatever. But I don't have a thinner style ES-339. I can see the Epiphone release being a GAS danger - aaaarghh!

As far as "auditioning" prior to buying, that's the best way to do it, but if you live in a very remote area as I do, you can't usually find what you're interested in locally. So, next best bet is to buy on-line @ one of the big music houses that has a "no questions asked" 45 day return policy for full refund and to have done as much on-line research of demos, reviews, etc. before ordering. It's worked OK for me. Not like a test drive, but it usually works.
Absolutely right. As far as it goes for me "auditioning" prior to buying only tells me if a guitar is good, bad or indifferent - but only several weeks if not months will tell me if it's one I'll connect with and/or one that will be a 'keeper'.

have you seen the stuff richard gere is auctioning off?  he has about 40 guitars and amps, all collectible, and vintage and perfect condish.  he has a les paul that's opening at 30 g's.
there was enough stuff there it would take 2 years to fully get to know all those instruments.
it'd be a really nice 2 yrs though  ;D

You can NEVER have too many guitars! ;D

some people can become burdened when they get past a certain number. but i would like to stand in the gap for my brothers and sisters of the string.  if any of you feel as though you just cant go on because of all the guitars you have, you can ship them to me, and i will take them off of your hands, and i won't charge you ANYTHING. it's a totally free service i offer, just because i care.

dh, i think warren buffet (he's jimmy buffet's dad, right?) said he thought he had too many guitars. i bet he would ship you some of his....by train, likely. :)

it's a burden not bourn well by most, i must say.  hare krishna's may the only ones exempt.

I wonder if this guitar is sold overseas?  Its not on Gibson's website nor Epiphone's.  Very odd.

You'll get used to it as it's the norm for those guys.

epi es339 is on thomann.de. For 400euro in europe. Not available yet of course.

It's common that not everything is uptodate on epi, squier, gibson etc. Sites.

We have some folks who have them listed, it's just that they don't have 'em in stock yet. Like these guys for example;http://www.zzounds.com/item--EPIET33.

Just found this thread again. I now have an Epiphone 339 and it's pretty cool. Nothing spectacular, my Viking is better. I'd give it a 7 out of 10, based on overall quality and sound for the price.

Yep, I've seen them now.  The Gibson ES339's are reasonable too, but not in my budget for awhile.
